How much did your newborn eat and how often? Every doctor seems to have a different way. Just curious....

She was breastfed and ate on demand. She usually nursed every 2-3 hours. I don't know how much she ate.

I have this question too....My baby is 3 days old and I'm breastfeeding he would stay latched on all day if Id let him but the nurses at the hospital said after about 25 mins he probably isn't getting anything so to take him off after 25 so we do both breast for 25 unless he falls asleep and unlatches on his own. I let him nap in between breast mostly to give me a break cause things are VERY sore at this point. He doesn't eat at exactly 2 or 3 hours sometimes he will go like 6 or 7 hours. Like today I tried to wake him up at around 3 and a half hours and he wouldn't wake up to do it no matter what I did! So if he's rooting around for a nipple I feed him I don't really watch the clock just as long as he's having poopy diapers and wet ones I just feed when he acts hungry. I guess I will talk to the pediatrician about it this week (if my nipples hold out that long!) Good luck!!!

Wrong wrong wrong! Sucking stimulates milk! He is building your supply. Let him nurse for hours if he wants to. My son did. As far as your nipples, get some lansinoh cream. It'll help tons. Oh, and never wake a sleeping baby!

Unless he's been sleeping 4+ hours....I was always told to never let more than 4 hours go by with a newborn.

I've started to just let him nurse as long as he wants. I have a friend that does 10 mins both breast with her daughter I don't think that's long enough if I did that with my baby he would scream!! I can't use the lansinoh cream I was told if you have an allergy to wool you can't use it so I found a cream tonight that is lanolin free and started using it I also use the hydrogel pads from medela it's getting better just the initial latch is painful then the rest is tugging that kinda tickles (weird I know) I'm clueless over this breast feeding thing I'm pretty sure my milk has started to come in tonight my boobs are super hard and big so I had to express some milk before and after baby nursed tonight and massages my breast while he was nursing it seemed to help alot but off to bed as we will be back up in a couple of hours to do this all over again, Thanks for the advise!

I would love for him to nurse more often it stresses me out when he goes hours I tried everything today to wake him I even got him naked and rubbed him down with baby lotion he didn't care at all so I had to wait until he was ready and by then 6 hours had passed but then tonight he's been on the boob all night but I'm pretty sure my milk supply has started to come in tonight cause I'm very full and firm. Maybe now we can get a better routine! Thanks!!!!
