Alternatives to an epidural?

posted 14th Oct
Did any of you ladies use an alternative pain medication while in labor? How was it?
TIA!

Stadol all 4 times. Doesnt take the pain away, but makes you not give a smurf.

U have to look up what your hospital offers. Mine doesn't do a full Epi for vaginal births. They only do an intrathecal that allows u to still walk around and only lasts 45min-1hr. Then there's also iv meds like Nubian. Or doing things like focal points or having some massage your back using a birthing ball etc.

Gas and air was enough for me to take the edge off and make the pain manageable. Good thing since my epi didn't work! I would avoid pethadine, I was only told once I had been given it that it wouldn't stop the pain, just help me relax. It made me so tired and was the reason I decided on an epidural in the end as I thought I could get some sleep!

idk what it was called, but i got a local anesthetic. i had horrible back labor and they gave me pitocin. i wouldn't get an epidural because i couldn't stand the thought of a needle in my back lol

the shot made me sleepy, and wore off before i had to push, which i was happy about.

The first time I asked for something, they gave me stadol...

I was sitting there, and I just felt like I melted into the bed, I couldn't stop talking and then I started nodding out. But, like a PP I could FEEL the contractions but, I didn't give a smurf, or didn't have the ability to focus on them.

I got IV meds...I can't remember exactly what they gave me, but it was awesome. It did wear off right before I reached the point where I had to push so I wasn't all loopy while pushing.

With my 3rd son I was able to sleep in between contractions. And even having contractions wasnt too bad.
