Tachycardia (fast heart rate during pregnancy)

posted 13th Oct
Anyone have tachycardia during pregnancy? Were you on medication? How did you handle it?

With my daughter my heart rate was also 120-150 RESTING, and it even got to 200bpm while in L&D a couple weeks before delivery, as soon as I had my daughter it went back down to 60-80bpm

I see a cardiologist, I have had a holter monitor, echo, and several eKg's done, and all came back normal, its just very scary, and now I am pregnant again and my daughter is almost 6 months

I have it during pregnancy and when i am not pregnant as well. as long as you are monitored you will be fine. it is frightening but it is not good to work yourself up more. what type of blood thinner are you on?

I did! I also had palpitations, which are also really scary. I saw a Dr. also - normally they would put you on a med called a "Beta blocker" but they are hesitant to use them during pregnancy, for obvious reasons. I was told it's normal, and even common during pregnancy. But I know how you feel! Scary! I'm sure you've heard this before, but when it happens the best thing you can do is sit down and relax. Feel better!

I'm just glad I found other w omen going thru the same thing! It is very scary   and I already have bad anxiety issues that I'm on meds for

Oh really? So its a blood thinner? What does it do, just keep your heart rate "normal"? Any side effects?

when they put you on heart meds you may not need anxiety meds. sometimes people are midiagnosed with anxiety when it is a heart condition or even a glandular problem.

I have something called Inappropriate Sinus Tachycardia, which basically means that my heart rate elevates with any kind of exertion...it's usually normal resting but when I'm standing/walking around it hovers around 120-130 bpm. I get really short of breath/tachycardic from just like walking up the stairs. I was taking metoprolol 75mg prior to pregnancy but my OB had my cardiologist wean me off it when I became pregnant. I've seen my cardiologist a couple times and had a holter monitor and everything and he kinda told me I'll just have to suffer through it...it's nothing life-threatening, just really uncomfortable, especially when I have palpitations. EKGs and every other test they've done has come back completely normal, same as you. If your cardiologist/OB aren't worried, I wouldn't be - I've had a completely healthy pregnancy.

I dont know if its a blood thinner. and 120 bpm is not normal. but it is more normal than when i dont take it. i only get tired on it. sometimes if i stand to quickly i get dizzy.

No serious side effects you know of with it? And I have had my thyroid tested, and blood work and everything is "normal" says my cardiologist, I am using an event monitor right now because sometimes my heart "pauses" and scares the smurf out of me and I get lightheaded and start to panic

I also have history of palpitations since I was little, but nothing ever shows up
