Do you think .......

An 8 year old should be able to entertain herself instead of wakibg her sister and myself in the moring? She is allowed to play the computer, or read a book, or draw, but she comes to me at ungodly hours and wakes me up to say she is awake and asks what she should do. I'm frustrated because I don't get to sleep in and the minute their youngest sibling awakes I have to give him constant care(Autism, 4, non-verbal). Am I being inconsiderate, selfish?

Yes but my 8 yr old won't do it either. He wants to wake up his younger brother (5).
Hs scared of being in the living room alone.
I had to crack down on it though, he's now only allowed to read in bed until his brother wakes up.

Not selfish! Mine does it. But he wants to be away from his brothers at times. They play well together but the younger two team up since they are close in age.

We were only allowed to leave our bedrooms to.use the restroom until 8 am. I would have her stay in her room until you got her up!

What time is your 8yr old waking up??
Yes you are being selfish   I don't care how old the child is.. when it's morning time, it's morning time...... there's no such thing as sleeping in past your children.

IMO at least.

I sleep in the living room, and it is open concept, computer in the dining room-but I could understand if it was down in the basement or there were no lights on-grrrrr.

Um yeah. I would be telling my 8 year old to go have "her time" playing in her room, reading, watching cartoons, movie, etc while I slept longer.
I would probably make her some breakfast first though or something.

I don't know who got the idea that children need CONSTANT parent entertainment, but they are fully capable of playing independently. I even make my 3 year old do it. I was independent and did not feel unloved playing alone in my room as a child and I'm sure she feels the same. I give her PLENTY of love and attention

5-5:30 a.m. is when she mostly awakes. It is rare for the youngest to sleep past 6, so I wouldn't be upset if she woke me up at 6 even.

Gahhh that's what time I wake up to get ready for work, I agree it's so early haha.
Why does she wake up so early? Does she go to bed early too?

Are you serious??? The child is EIGHT, not a one year old. What is she supposed to do? Get up and stare at her while she plays??

Who knows why she wakes up, according to her she just had enough sleep. I have tried keeping them up later but it backfires, they seem to wake up earlier and are crusty. My youngest just started sleeping more than 4 hours a night a few months ago, so I was really looking forward to sleeping a wee bit more than 4 hours a night-and not during the week because the oldest two have school, and the youngest has therapy all day long.

I was thinking more along the lines of getting up.... turning the lights on... making breakfast... turning the news on.. starting the day.

But that's just me. I can never see sleeping in past my child.

My niece is 8. She gets up, gets some cereal for breakfast and plays. At that age, they don't need constant supervision. Hell, she's been doing that since age 5. But she does have two older siblings.

& You sleep in the living room? I don't see why she'd need to wake you up then, since you're basically right there with her.. Is she just bored or something?

I wasn't so concerned about the constant supervision as I was thinking more so about the company... But every family is different.
