Depends on where they work.... My dad was gone for weeks at a time and home for a few days with one job, and at another company he was gone during the week but home every weekend.

My dad was in the military before he was a trucker, so my mom was kinda used to it.

I think I would get used to it. I don't need my SO around all the time and the money would be good.

DH was a trucker and it smurfing sucked.

smurf pay. never around. they said he would be home every other weeks. I saw him ever 4 months. I was pregnant and had a toddler. and the pay, the pay was so smurffy. they make it sound like it will be good, but nope. the amount you pay, and the deductions they take. it just was not worth it.

Wow, sucky. It could have been the company he was going through.

The big freight companies is where its at. My SO is a 'road' driver for FedEx. He only goes terminal to terminal and comes home every night. He started as a dock worker and worked his way up.

Can't go wrong with the railroad either. My benefits are incredible.

DH wants to try to get in with fedex. he has his cdl, and he feels like he's wasting it.

Definitely have him apply. I know you start at the bottom but being that he already has his CDL they may float him up quicker. I always joke that FedEx is his girlfriend and I'm the mistress. Mostly because us both being in the transportation industry means we don't see much of eachother. But even so, I miss him, I'm excited to see him and it makes the time we have together valuable. We've always said we would sell our souls young, save like crazy and be set. I have until I'm 60. 34 more years.
