Cloth nursing pads ?

posted 12th Oct
I made some cloth nursing pads, and while they were great at first, I realized that they soak straight through instead of... out. Like the back of the pad, near my bra, gets wet before the outer edges do. Hope that makes sense. So, I'm going to make some more, and my question is, could I use fusible vinyl for a waterproof layer at the back?

I read that it cuts down on breathability and it could lead to more clogged ducts and whatnot, so that's why I left it out of these pads that I made. They're four layers, two of a receiving blanket, and two of a cotton fabric, just for looks.

Why not use PUL? It's breathable.

I would say that the vinyl would probably cause some issues. If your skin can't breathe all kinds of nasty things could happen. I would think that you might even get like a yeast infection on your boob and give your baby thrush.

Would the gerber cloth diapers work for fabric? I use them as burp cloths and they absorb pretty well. The ones I got would be thick enough for a nursing pad.

I don't have any on hand, and I'd have to buy it online and wait for shipping lol.

Joanne here doesn't have any, and there's only one Walmart near me that still has a fabric section, but it's across the state line in NC lol. That's why I'd have to order it online.

Ohh I gotcha.

Have any old wool sweaters? That might work for an extra absorbant layer.

Didn't think about using those, but I don't see why they wouldn't work...

No... I don't think we have spare sweaters, or ANY sweaters at all, but if we do, I don't think they're wool. It'd say wool, right? Polyester isn't wool? lol

Lol no polyester isn't wool. It'd say like 100% wool or wool blend

Lmao I thought so, but I figured I'd ask. I really doubt we have any of those. But maybe I can pick one up at Goodwill.

zorb is good at spreading out moisture. i found this out by mistake. i have a boy and hed keep soaking thru the front of his diapers at night but the back would still be completely dry, so i had some zorb stay dry inserts i added in, and it balenced out the moisture perfectly
