6 month old and sleep

My son has always been swaddled and he rolls now heaps, he keeps himself awake my grabbing at his face or anything in sight so we were thinking about waiting till he's asleep then taking the swaddle away but he's lying on his side and rolled once onto his belly and stayed asleep flat on his face I'm worried he's going to suffocate one way or theothr, what should I do? It's also getting hot which is another reason I was thinking of weaning him from being swaddled, I'm just so worried.

Sorry typing on my phone, I meant to say he was not swaddled when he rolled onto his belly but although he was face down he stayed asleep that's why I'm worried about not swaddling.

All of my babies sometimes slept face down. It's scary to us Moms, but if they got themselves into that position, they canget themselves out of it if they're not getting enough air.
As for swaddling, it's time to stop if your baby is rolling all over the place. Instead of going cold turkey, we swaddled our kids further down a bit each night. First few nights ,blanket only up to chest level. Next couple of nights, swaddle with arms out. Last phase we used was to cut a square of the beloved blanket and leave it in with baby as a lovey. We then started using sleepsacks.
