Ignoring black woman in labor because of her race?

If she were white, people would have stopped and helped

I think it wasnt race. If it was, that is pretty smurffy.

I am surprised nobody went into the school though to tell them that she was out there in need of help.

When I went to community college, there would be multiple people trying to use my phone outside of class. Mostly because their rides were late or something like that. Sometimes I would lie and say I had no minutes because I didnt have time to stand beside them while they called everyone and their mothers to try to find a ride. :/ But, if they were obviously in need, I would give them it, no matter what race they are.

i dont think race has anything to do with it. i wouldnt give anyone my cell phone.
had she said "someone please call 911" or "i am in labor, someone help" it would have probably been different.
but idk, i am always paranoid about people scamming others etc.

It could have been a factor, but I don't let people strangers use my cell.

If it's an emergency I will call 911 for them.

What jerks! I do not care what race a person is if they need help then it is a simple as that! Geez, I hate racist bastards.
Saying that, I do not know what those people were thinking. They could have been too absorbed in their own life or they could be close minded pricks. Whatever the reason, it was wrong. I hope the woman got help in time.

I would say no. I don't have a cell phone. But I would go to the closest place and ask for someone to call 911. I don't think it was about race, though.

If someone was sitting on a bench crying and moaning, I'd probably ignore them too and assume they were crazy. Wouldn't matter what race they are.

If she was screaming "Help, I'm in labor!" I think people would have been more responsive.

Honestly when I was in labor the last thing I wanted to do was lay there and cause a scene... so unless she was having complications, this strikes me as odd anyway. *shrug*

Furthermore... I'm assuming she's a pregnant college student, or maybe staff... what did she think she would do when she went into labor? Maybe a tracfone or something should have been an option if she didn't have a cellphone.

Maybe it's just me... I don't like to depend on others.

People tend to follow the herd and it only takes one person to stop, but then more probably would have. Look up the Bystander Effect.

I'm not saying race had nothing to do with it, but I feel like even if she was white, a lot of people would pass her by. Everyone feels like someone else is going to help the more people there are in an area.

Yes im sorry to say but yes sometimes white people do that. I've asked them for the time in the street and they just keep walking and ignore you.
