A mother knows act. D and D

posted 12th Oct
If there was an act begun in which a mother who believes there is a more serious medical issue than a doctor is diagnosing or believes that their child is being misdiagnosed due to lack of intervention, assessment and tests run, would you be for or against it? Basically what this act would entail is a binding, legal document between patient and doctor in which a mother can request a certain procedure. On this legal document approval or denial of said procedure will be an option. If the requested procedure is denied it is then documented and both parties have it. If a child has been misdiagnosed or suffers further illness due to lack of procedures or tests due to physician denial this document will prove negligence. On the other side if mother requests procedures and doctor approves said procedures this will also be documented and if misdiagnoses occurs but the physician abided by the mothers request this document would protect them from a malpractice suit. Basically this would be an additional document to add in any patients chart for those patients who question the diagnosis or integrity of the physicians decision. Good idea , bad idea? Why or why not? I wish I could explain it better but I'm on my phone

Great idea!! I had to take my son 3 times, 3 days in a row! He ended up with pink eye, throat infection, ear infection, and a tissue infection that by the 2nd day he was admitted (when he got a CT scan) the infection was reaching his brain. It was terrible! If I didn't insist and refused to leave the ER on that third night, idk what could've happen to my baby.

No. First, insurance would not cover. No physicians would legally bind themselves to such a rigid document. Most lay people don't know what to ask for so the cost would skyrocket.

No way hell would I support a document like that. Most of the problems with costs of medical care we have now is medical malpractice and tort. What we need is tort reform, not more laws dictating unnecessary paperwork.

The insurance costs for doctors would surely rise exponentially and they would not be able to as readily pay it, thus leaving the medical field. Most doctors can't even afford their insurance right now, anyways. So, why raise that cost on them?

I'm not sure i understand it, but it sounds like it would make the degree to which defensive medicine is practiced much worse in pediatrics.
I dont think i understand. If i was opposed to the lack of treatment for my child I'd take her somewhere or write down my concerns with witnesses and the doctors knowledge.

This would be a great idea if we were looking for ways to make health care costs go up!
