eczema in toddlers

posted 12th Oct
I was wonder how common it is. When my youngest was born I was told she had a very mild case of psoriasis and it should leave. Now she is older and her checks had a rash of course I took her to her doctor (she get strep rash easy) To make sure and I was told it is Eczema. I was asked what soap and such I use and I said its all free and clear things. She was prescribed an ointment for it and I was told to use it until the rash is gone than use it only when she has the Flare-ups.

Anyways How often does our child have the flare-ups if he/she has it?

Thank you

LO used to have flare-ups a lot, so much that I felt bad for him and his skin always looked terrible. Now he's a bit older and he's grown out of it, which happens a lot.

All of my kids have it but my one year old has it pretty severe. We dont use soap at all except in her hair and I also use aquaphor (sp?) About 5 times a day and a prescription ointment 3 times a day. If I forget one or the other it flares up really quickly. Hers has gotten so bad that it will bleed. My poor baby!

My youngest has severe eczema. His face and legs are the worst. I think it kind of look like psoriasis. I give him bleach baths and he is always covered in steroid cremes. He is always broken out in rash with maybe a day or two every couple weeks where it actually looks better but it never really is better if that makes sense.

You need to focus more on diet than creams/ washes/ etc.
Those are just treating the symptoms.
Changing her diet and eliminating the foods that are triggering the flare-ups will actually address the cause.

We normal eat clean. I'm a beach body coach so I try to make sure we are eating healthy as we can. She is in the picky stage. This is new for us as in started on the 7th or 8th. We went up to the Mesa here and I think with the temperature change, wind blowing and different plants it just started up

Does she eat dairy?
That's a hard one to eliminate for kids but that really irritates my son's eczema...
Also, try some coconut oil to treat it, both orally if you can sneak a teaspoon or two into her food, and topically.

Not a lot of it a cup of milk a day that is it. She doesn't really like dairy. I took her off whole milk it would make her constipated so I moved her to 2% and she doesn't have an issue with it.

Kylee doesn't have eczema but I work in a derm office, so I see this a lot!

We recommend washing with either Cetaphil or CeraVe. Bubble bath and all that stuff is super drying. Moisturize after every bath, then focally moisturize on trouble areas through out the day. Cetaphil or CeraVe has a great moisturizer. Aquafor or plain vaseline is also good(but greasier)

It CAN be diet related like another momma said, but only if it's allergic eczema. Sometimes it's not and the child is just prone to dry skin that turns in to the eczema rash.

You can fb me or txt me if have any other questions.

Ohhh I have to remenber this!! Thanks!!

My DD has BAD eczema on her cheeks. It looks sooo painful and the creams that the doc gave us and aquaphor never worked. She also has food allergies. I know they're connected but I don't understand why she still gets it even after we eliminate stuff in her diet (allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, and whole egg), so I really think it's enviromental allergies. But it was more severe when didn't know she had allergies and was eating the foods that she shouldn't be having. She breaks out from April to September and once in a while during the winter months.
