re: Going Out As A Parent

posted 12th Oct
Ya, I don't think going out in general is a bad thing...it's a great thing. Parents do need time to themselves, but when it is constant and they use the excuse of "they need a break from being a parent". I can understand date nights once a week with the hubster or going out every once in awhile with friends, but when it has to be every single weekend, or all weekend for every weekend, because of the fact that you need a break from being given the gift of being a parent...give me a break. I do not think parents who go out are bad parents, I just find the constant need and the excuse given to be a bit ridiculous.

Yes, really. Unfortunately, and this will sound really mean, but she is "supermom" who does everything perfectly and nobody measures up. She's told me before that instead of going out, I should clean my house. The home, on the inside, is my primary focus. I realize why some SAHMs, who box themselves in like this, can get depressed. That is no life to be living.

There is a big difference between the necessity to work for a family and getting drunk at a bar every single weekend, wouldn't you say?

No family but there are parent nights out and stuff. It just wouldn't work for our youngest. He shuts down with strangers and we don't know anyone well enough to have them babysit. It's ok though. We just put them to bed super early some weekends and have the house to ourselves. We just regret it when they're up at 6 am the next day hah

I am over here picturing "Bubble Boy"

I never realized how much of a difference the occasional adult night out (or even in) can keep a marriage happy and make the demands and struggles of parenting less overwhelming.

That's dumb. It's okay to go out once a week with your "hub" but not your friends. So I single lady should not be allowed out on a weekly basis?

That's not a part time parent. Once a week is part time?

Exactly. My kids are in bed at nine and when I go out, we don't even leave until then.

Honestly, some grandparents WANT to watch their grandkids and if I lived closer to my family, damn straight I would be going out as often as my mom wanted to watch them.
