Copper IUD

Anyone have one ?

I got my prescription today for it & I was just wondering if anyone could give me a little bit more info on it ? I heard a side effect was heavy & painful periods ? Could someone give me a list of pros & cons ? & Does it hurt when it's being put in ?

I lost an ovary and a tube because of it, which made the painful periods seem like childsplay.

IUDs are generally risky. Take that for what it is.

How did that happen ?  

I had heavier more painful periods for sure.

And then I got pregnant.

So I won't be doing that again.

My periods got heavier....but now are back to normal. I have had no problems with it what-so-ever.

Your avi made me LOL !  

I hear they have to be placed EXACTLY right and its easy to miss it and dislodge it and your body tries to grow over it or cause infection. My friend had to have it surgically removed cuz it was in wrong. Ultrasound after placement wasn't done either to check.

Hehe... That's pretty much where I'm at. I'm one week postpartum, so I'd rather have a sammich right about now lol.

I've had it twice both times I haven't had problems. It does cause heavier periods and more cramps though.

I had a reaction to it as well. Broke out in horrible cystic acne all over my back and chest and face, which had never happened to me before. My cycles went from light and 4 days in length to almost unsafe levels of bleeding for 10 days. I started gaining weight for no reason, and I started having horrible migraines. Then eventually after trying to figure out what was doing this to me to no avail I started to have copper in my menstrual cycles. Got it removed and every single thing slowly corrected itself. I'll never do it again.

I had the paragard copper iud for a year & had so many problems with it. My periods were long like almost 2 weeks & were extremely painful...cramps felt like they radiated from my knees up to my shoulders   then I got during the year I had it 2 UTI's, a bacteria infection numerous times and finally a pelvic infection that was sooo painful & dangerous...turned out I'm allergic to copper   so I got it out in May. Insertion was painful for me because it was after my cervix closed & she had to cut it which hurt bad! I'd rather give birth without an epideral than have that put in again. It might work for you, but it was NOT for me...just have to trial & test like all birth control.

It caused a 9cm tumor to grow that strangled my ovary and nearly killed me.


But Paragard gave me a refund
