Rant, probably going to make a few mad

posted 11th Oct
Ok so I'm a paramedic. I work for a very busy 911 service. We work 24 hours on and 48 hours off. My 24 hours shifts usually don't include any sleep as sometimes the only food is gas station junk if we get that lucky. My partner is wonderful and does as much lifting as he possibly can but lifting and moving patients requires two people. At least half, if not more of our patients weigh over 200 pounds. Some even over 400 which by ourselves my partner and I lift from the floor or pull put of a wrecked car or something along those lines. My whole body aches and it takes me a full day to recover after a shift. I am 35.4 weeks along and I am sick and tired of listening to other pregnant women cry and complain about how hard it is to go to work. I see posts of women with desk jobs that don't stay working as long as I have and they cry and complain saying "it was just too hard, i was too tired" and it irritates the crap out of me! Sorry had to rant, not looking for pity.

I feel ya there! My job is not hard but I stayed with it up until my due date last pregnancy and will again. I never understand when girls quit like as soon as they're pregnant or even at 20ish weeks. If there's complications that's one thing, but if everythings fine just keep at it!

You shouldn't be lifting anyone being pregnant
And sitting in a chair 40 hours a week pregnant is VERY uncomfortable.

Oh shove it. lol

Pregnancy is uncomfortable for EVERYONE. Some more then others. The fact that you have a labor intensive job doesn't negate others from complaining. If that were the case then YOU should STFU because some people can't even have kids, right? So who are YOU to complain, others have it worse.

Seriously. Stop trying to compare things. For all you know your pregnancy pain is nothing compared to a woman who has a desk job. Maybe it's worse. WHO CARES. People complain because THEIR experience is hard. The fact that someone elses may be harder is besides the point.

I completely understand!!

I dont work for a busy paramedic service, but I work 40 hours a week as a CNA and I did that up until two days before my daughter was born. Theres a ton of lifting and bending involved in my field of work also.

I'll be doing bending and lifting for 40 hours a week this time too, so I feel you pain!

You can lift while pregnant as long as its something you're used to doing. Any doctor will clear you to lift as long as you dont have a good reason not to.

I cannot see any OB recommending that you lift a 400 lb person from the ground when you're pregnant....

Does your doctor know and agree with you helping to lift 200-400 pound people?!?!? WTF....

And yeah I can understand you feeling that way when other people who have "easier" jobs complain while pregnant, but you obviously chose to do what you're doing while pregnant so how can you complain much? And pregnancy is uncomfortable for everyone.....be thankful you don't have to be put on bed rest or have complications throughout.....

Especially since her last post (OP's) was from the start of September said she was alreaedy 70% effaced at 30 weeks. Lifting like that if you're at high risk for preterm labor *IS* dangerous.
