Not eating?

posted 11th Oct
Does anyone else's kid starve themselves if they don't like what's for dinner? I never make DD anything she hates, and if I do make something like that for dinner I make her something else. But smurf, she's being such a brat. I made chicken with a souped-up BBQ sauce and beans, and she won't touch it (and I know she likes it  ). So I told her she gets nothing to eat but that and I will not do crafts (our after dinner plan) if she doesn't eat, and she's legit not eating.

Does anyone know some tricks to avoid this, because it's not acceptable. I don't want to make her sit at the table until it's eaten because it's not worth the headache. But seriously, I serve her on her special dishes and give her the drink she wants, and cut things up small and only put a small amount on her plate, and she helps me make dinner, and I always talk about what I'm making first and ask her input on it. I don't know what more I can do, but it's becoming a problem because she rarely eats dinner now a days, which is not healthy.

Help!

Children won't starve themselves. It doesn't break my heart if my kids go to bed hungry. If they won't eat, I offer water and they go to bed. They eat breakfast just fine in the morning. Meh...

it's okay for her to skip meals

I wouldn't worry about it at all. She won't literally starve herself. Just don't give her anything else until breakfast

My daughter does this. Her pedi says it's normal. Not too long ago she wouldn't eat lunch. Now lately she won't eat dinner. *shrug*

We send our kids straight to bed if they don't eat either once they are like 5 yrs old and up, before that they just don't get any other food other then another chance to eat dinner until bed.

She won't literally starve herself. I was having this problem earlier with DD, she was Hungry but didn't want to eat what was gotten for her, so I told her to eat that or not at all. Eventually she ate it.

My mom used to tell me one of two things, "eat all of it or half of it" or "eat it or wear it", I never wore anything, but my brother did.. hahhaha

I never had it done to me personally, but my brother had it happen to him.. Our dad was the one who did it to him, and my dad was raised the same way, none of us are picky eaters.. haha. It's definitely incentive to eat your food.

That is really really sad

That's how eating disorders start.

That's what I thought but I'm gettin concerned because she skips a lot of meals! She'll eat 2 breakfasts but everything else is pulling teeth unless it's noodles or a peanut butter sandwich.

My brother and dad are definitely far from having eating disorders, and I had an eating disorder, but it was strictly binge eating, but my metabolism kept me really thin..

She doesn't need much food

Let her eat as she is hungry. That's how people should eat anyway

it's still not healthy to put food on a child to "teach" them to eat.

I can honestly say that thought has never crossed my mind, lol. I can't even see what that would teach a child
