Mice infestation

posted 11th Oct
I live in base housing and the one we chose has had mice since we first moved in. They only let us use sticky traps or whatever, which is sad because they don't die right away they just suffer on the trap. I feel bad for them. Well a few weeks ago we could smell piss under our sink and hear a mouse squeaking all the time. It finally stopped and we figured it died. Well for the past week or so I always see mice run in my bathroom but only there shadows and we find dog food all over the floor like 15 pieces every morning. Well this morning I was in the bathroom and one ran across my foot and than into the heater closet on a trap.. So I thought that was over... well than my power goes out and I hear another one in my pantry eating some dog food. I am terrified of mice.. I don't know what to do.. I hit the pantry door and it started squeaking again. :/ it's 3 here and my hubs doesn't get home until after 7 I don't even want to go into my kitchen! ugh! I am pregnant with mice, can that hurt my unborn child? airborne disease? what about my new baby thats going to be on my carpet playing . ): I hate this stupid place!

They dont let you use any other types of traps?? Thats weird... I had mice in my old house, and I got the traps from walmart that they run into, kinda like a mouse hotel, and then you just throw the whole trap away. In about 2 weeks, we were mouse free and never got them again. The best part is they arent poison, and you dont ever have to look at the mouse lol. It has a thing on the side to let you know if a mouse is in it... If they will only let you use the sticky pads, maybe you can try putting a little glob of peanut butter in the middle of the paper to attract them. I would also get a big container to keep your dog food in instead of leaving it in the bag. If all else fails see if they will let you get a cat, or even if they wont, borrow someones cat for a few weeks lol. I hate mice too so I know how you feel. Good luck!!!

Yeah, not healthy at all mama. Especially with the baby playing on the floor. Why can't you use the normal mice traps? They would probably be a lot more effective. Mice loveeee dog food, try to keep it where they can't get to it. My parents used to have a little mouse problem and one day I went to feed the dogs, reached my hand in the bag and got a big scoop of food, there was a mouse in the scooper! I almost had a heart attack. lol

Thanks lol. Yeah it's ridiculous. Nope it's something about wildlife here and how you can and can not hurt them. I keep my dog food in a container it's my dog's dish on the floor. I leave it out all the time. Guess I'm not doing that anymore.

Definitely have them fix the problem. You could also call the news station if they refuse. The military does not want the public to know their soldiers are forced to live like that. That is a last resort. While you are waiting to get it fixed, buy some peppermint oil and cotton balls. Stick cottonballs in corners and other places they do. It will burn their eyes and nose. They should leave. Also drop some poison behind water heaters and under the house.

The sticky traps dont work well. We had a few mice when we moved in our hosue since we livew in the country. Well, one landed on the sticky trap, before I caught him, he escaped by chewing his way out and scratching. There was hair and chewed up plastic everywhere. We dont have them now...only because we laid out poison.

You can't just call a regular pest control company?

Well that makes sense (being sarcastic) lol. The sticky pads are the worst ones. That sucks for your dog, I leave my dogs food out also. Have you talked to them about it? Seriously, I dont know about military housing, but I know Califonia state law is whoever owns the house has to fix any problems like that, unless stated otherwise in your lease. It seems pretty crappy that the govt isnt taking care of a military family...

Unfortunately....laws dont apply to the military. They are exempt.

I hate hate hate that we had to do this... but we had to use glue traps to catch a mouse in our house. We have two dogs that would of gotten in any other traps. Well we caught the mouse on a glue board and then we put him in a plastic bag so he suffocated. It actually happened relatively quick... like 3 minutes. So if you want to do that, it's not the best but it is a way to put the glue trap in a zip lock bag and then kill the mouse that way.
