Mealy apples

Can I make applesauce with apples that have gone mealy tasting, like would it still taste good and if I can, how do you make it?

I would do it. I just slice & skin the apples, bake them for like 30 min with a little sugar & cinnamon and then put em in the blender.

is there a way to do it on the stovetop? My oven is deader than dead

Yeah you can just bake them with a little bit of apple juice in a covered pan. just make sure to stir them so they don't burn on the bottom ( I speak from experience  )

oh I could imagine burned apples wouldn't smell very good
