Breast feeding with big breasts.

posted 11th Oct
By big, I mean bigger than DD. My breasts are a size H.

I want to breastfeed, at the very least I want to pump if breastfeeding doesn't work out. I say this because I had a really hard time breastfeeding my DD before my milk dried up at 2 weeks pp. I couldn't find a comfortable position for us, I would have to hold her up, while holding my boob up, while holding my boob away from her nose and it was difficult.

What helped you? Any tips/tricks I should know?

I have one, and I had one with DD but I still felt like I was holding her up some.

I always feed DS in a laying down position at home bc it's easiest. If we are out, especially in the beginning it was easy for me to lay him in his carseat and lean over even though that sounds hard. If I couldn't do that then I just made myself as comfortable as I could. It gets a little easier when baby gets bigger bc they can position their heads so that they can breathe.

I had the same problem. My boobs were wayy bigger than my daughters head when she was born. I ebf for 3 months. I would do this: hold her with my right arm her on right boob hold right boob with left hand and do the c around the boob they tell u about in the hospital, that worked the best because i could hold it up but push it out of her face at the same time. Good luck!

We found the football hold and a boppy best. I don't have to support the babies head and just have to push down on the top of my breast to not suffocate her. I only breast fed until 7 months but it worked out fine.

Side-lying position is awesome for me, though even doing that I still have to hold my boob away from his nose and he is almost 18 months. It was the hardest when his head was really small, but now that his head is about the size of my boob it's a little easier. Good luck!

I feed my DD while I am laying down and now she can sit and nurse from the side of me or I lay her across my chest and she nurses that way, but before usually a more reclined position with the boppy pillow helped a lot. I had to hold my boob back too from her nose but the lactation consultant told me she can breath, babies noses are formed in a way that they can breath while breast feeding.

See I can't do that, my boob takes over her face when I tried lol.

Lol. Mine did in the early months, but with side-lying I could actually see his face and what was going on. If I just let my boob flop on his head the with the "normal hold" (I forget what that's called) I wouldn't even be able to see his face. Hahaha.

I have big breasts too and I find the most comfortable way to nurse DD is laying down. Now that she is older its a lot easier because we really have the hang of it (shes 9 months) but when she was a newbie it was hard to find positions that worked and didn't make my body uncomfortable. Our nursing pillow was really helpful too
