Losing weight during pregnancy on purpose

posted 11th Oct
I'm currently 16 weeks pregnant. Right before I got pregnant I started trying to get healthy, eating better, quit smoking, quit drinking soda and all that. Found out I was pregnant in July and figured that any chance of weight loss was down the drain now but I'd still continue to be healthy for the baby. at this point I've lost over 20 lbs so far and can definitely see where I'm thinning out in my sides. I know a lot of people lose weight in the beginning because of morning sickness, but I didn't really have morning sickness THAT bad at all. So, I guess my question is is this weight loss from the little morning sickness I had or from me eating healthier? Is this weight loss healthy to continue? I'm kind of hoping that I can continue to just lose all this fat and gain baby, lol.
I just want to make sure that this is all okay to do and if it's possible to still get to a healthier weight during pregnancy? and just to be clear everything I'm doing is in a healthy way, not extreme or bad and I'm not really exercising either..
any advice or experiences would be great! Thanks!

As long as you are taking in 1600-2000 calories a day you will probably be fine

I think if you are being healthy, then you are just putting yourself on the right track, and the weight loss is probably fine.

Good for you for getting healthy mamma!

Ask your doctor first. I wouldn't suggest trying to "lose" weight while pregnant but maintaining your new healthy lifestyle will be beneficial to your pregnancy as long as you eat enough calories.

The weight loss will not continue throughout your pregnancy. I lost weight up until I was around 20 weeks, then I QUICKLY started gaining.

Keep eating healthy. It is good for you and it is great for baby. It will also make it to where you probably won't gain ungodly amounts of weight.

It is possible to get healthy while pregnant, but it really isn't possible to lose weight and not gain any of it back during pregnancy. Your baby is developing and not gathering a whole bunch of fat, right now. When the fat production begins for baby, the pounds slowly start to come back.

i lost weight consistently throughout my pregnancy and didn't gain any at all until the end.

as long as you're eating how much you're supposed to (you don't need to eat that much more while pregnant like people think). the doctors will keep an eye on the baby and make sure he/she is developing fine and growing at an acceptable rate.

Don't make serious efforts to lose weight while you're pregnant. No intense exercises or anything, but definitely keep being healthy and if you're looking to exercise then walking is a great way to go

Congratulations on quitting smoking!!! And soda pop! That is a great accomplishment and a wonderful gift to your child!

If you are eating healthier than you used to and you were overweight before then you may lose some weight during pregnancy as a result of a healthier lifestyle. I don't think losing weight should be a goal though because you don't want to overly limit your calories. Instead just focus on putting lots of good things into your body like prenatals, 1.5 litres of water a day, and at least 5-7 servings of fruits and veg. Make sure you get protien and carbs at each meal and baby will have everything that he or she needs to grow and develop!

Thanks ladies! I'm not really trying at all to lose weight it's just happened so far and I'm hoping it will slowly continue if I'm lucky.
I don't count my calories at all, but I'm pretty sure I'm getting enough. I'm basically just eating all organic fruits and veggies, meat and nuts.. So, nothing processed and no crazy diets. I just want to make sure this is okay, While weight loss isn't my main goal it sure would be nice!
