More than 1 kid... Narcs or Epi?
posted 11th Oct
If you opted for pain relief after having at least one kid, which did you prefer? I am thinking narcs will be too close to birth, but I hate the numbness from the epidural.

Honestly if I could have gone back I would have done natural pain management.

Yeah, I have tried natural epi and narcs. I just wishes I could pick and choose the perks. I know I don't want to go natural ever again, but the catheter from the epi hurts like hell...

Natural. The narcs just make you feel out of it. Pain is still there. You just can't really talk and are about 10 minutes behind.

Both?
Here they only do one or the other. Usually depending on progression, but they still ask.

I had an epi with my last one. It caused her to come way to fast and it affected her heart rate terribly. Not having anymore....but if I did, I'd do natural again.

Interesting. I only heard stories of it slowing labor or hindering progression.

I had narcs which I still felt EVERY bit of pain, I just felt really drunk. I HATED it.
Epic was fine.
With my second I plan to have a natural birth.

I had my daughter natural and I had an Epidural with my son.
I loved having an Epidural, it was nice to focus on giving birth, not the pain.

Yeah, that's how I feel. I just want a pain free labor, but the actual pushing didn't hurt nearly as bad as contractions.

The narcs didnt seem to help me too much, kinda made me feel drunk but I can't say that it helped a whole lot with the pain. The epidural definitely helps with the pain, but I hate for my legs to be numb. Luckily I caved in for the epidural about half an hour before my son was born so my legs never even got time to numb. I was rolling around in the bed and everything. So that actually ended up quite well for me. Since this is my last child I am really determined to go natural. I think I could have last time if I hadn't been given pitocin.

It was nice, not feeling the ring of fire. My epi was still on while I was push, but I was able to push with no problem. I stalled at 7cm and the epi helped speed things along, because without it, my body was under too much stress.
I got hooked up to that sucker and had DS not even an hour later. It was heaven. Lol

I had narcs with my first child and they didn't seem to help at all. I had an epidural with my second child and it was awesome. I didn't feel any pain but was able to feel just enough pressure to know when it was time to push and I was able to feel her come out. With my third child, the epidural only really numbed my legs. It helped a little, but I mostly felt everything. And it just so happened that he was my biggest baby, weighing right at 9 lbs. His shoulders were so big that he was stuck for a little bit and I thought I would have to have a c-section. But I was finally able to push him out. After that delivery I decided to have a tubal ligation because there is no way I'm going through that again!

ehhh my back is smurfed up from the epidural. It wasn't the 2nd anes fault either. The first one did it in a rush because C's heart rate was dropping and it was hope that it would relax me some to make me quit tensing during contractions. The second one I got because douche was being his normal douche self.
