How do you know if its real labor besides...

posted 11th Oct
I never went into labor on my own so help out please
I have an irritable uterus so I'm constantly having contractions. At night is when I get cramp like feelings in my lower stomach it will feel sore too. Sometimes I feel like pinching feelings down there too.

Is there any other way to tell if your going into labor BESIDES contractions, water breaking, bloody show, losing mucous plug.?

only way to know if it's real labor.. is have a trained person check yoru cervix and monitor contractions.

you can do all of the others without actually being in labor.

but... timable contractions, consistent and getting closer together... good time to get checked

When you can no longer talk through contractions, its fair to say its real labor and worth calling your doc/mw or checking into hospital. Kinda sounds like you have peodromal labor which can last weeks.

Checking cervix doesn't tell you if its real labor and is unnecesary. And you can monitor contractions yourself, doesn't nees to be a trained person or machine.

Well I've been having contractions like this since 31 weeks they say my uterus is irritable. So its braxton hicks and sometimes real ones. I am getting non stress tests 2x a week i have contractions just not ones that would make me stay at the hospital.

the ONLY way to knwo if it's real labor.. is if the cervixis making changes. The only way to know that... is by.................checking the cervix.

I had consistent contractiosn from 19 weeks on.. with all my pregnancies. it wans't labor.. until they changed by cervix.

Oh my goodness.
That amazes me.
When I was in labor, I couldn't even manage to speak, let alone get on my phone!
I saw a girl I went to high school with was in labor and her status said "these contractions are terrible!". I couldn't help but think .. how bad can they be if you're updating your status?
Lol everyone's different I suppose.

Well my labor was fast and intense and I didn't really have breaks so I guess I just forget labor isn't necessarily always like that.

Yeah I've seen people update till they push lol. I guess its irritating because my doctor is gone till next week. I don't see her till Monday. I have a non stress test in the morning which is probably going to say I'm contracting like I have been so idk.

With prodromal labour you can dilate with the contractions but not be in active labour. The contractions are the same, it just doesn't escalate to full blown active labour and usually goes away after sleeping a bit.

Plenty of women go through labor and pregnancy without having their cervix checked for dilation. Besides, it can take 3 hours to dilate from 1 cm to 10, it could take 3 weeks. Some women can be dilated up to 5 for days.

well i just gave birth yestruday 10/11/12
and i started having mentrual like cramping down in my lower pelvic and had a lil pressure on my rectum. it was really light so i thought it was normal. it started in the morning. i had it off and on but it didnt get any stronger til about 5 i noticed it getting a lil worse but nothing i couldnt handle so i still thought it was normal cus it didnt hurt that much and didnt progress like how ppl say that it gets worse more and more. but i did notice i had alot of them and they still didnt stop. never counted them though. i could put up with them for some more hours, then at about 9 pm it started getting bad that it was so uncomfortable i couldnt stay still. but i still put it off cus i was at some place. then at 10 is when enough was enough and i went to the hospital. i got there and my water broke and they said i was almost 9cm dilated im like omg now thats why it hurts so smurfen bad lmao pleaseee help me lol. i got the epidural and 3 pushes later i had her. so the difference really with real labor i think is that it feels like menstrual cramps and u just hav to wait it out a lil while to see if it gets any worse and if you get more than just some. dnt wait too long like me lol. good luck :]
