babies eating?? *&& PICS GALORE!!!!!!*

posted 10th Oct
My daughter will be 4 months on the 18th of October.
Her 3 month check up, her doctor said we will discuss solids at her next appointment, which is on the 22nd.
Isn't that a little early? I know some people feed babies solids at 4 months, and some delay... what is the reason for delay?
And, also, how do you know when your baby is ready for solids??
What do you try first? Cereal? Rice??
Anddd, some pics just because (:

&&& her at birth!

She's getting big, well kinda ;) birth she was 6.11 now as of two weeks ago she's 11.4 She's pretty petite, little boned like her daddy, but proud to say she's getting a little chunky in her legs
She rolls over both ways, laughs, smiles all the time, grabs her toys, is SO close to sitting up alone, follows everything with her eyes! She's such a happy baby and SUCH a joy to have, i'm so thankful for her!!!!

That second picture is priceless.

Delaying is to make sure they have a closed gut and are physically ready for solids. We waited with both our kids because I couldn't find a reason not to really.

HAH yeah I love it SO cute. Yesterday I was at the hospital from 4 am- 7 pm with my friend who was having her baby ( she thought she was gonna give her up for adoption so I HAD to be there for her) and, my mom sent me this while she was watching her, I missed her so much, longest I have ever been away from her so I was really happy to see it   sooo cute.

and oh okay!

She is a beautiful baby. Congrats!!! As for solids it really dpends on if they are ready. My son never liked the rice cereal unless it was mixed with juice because it just had no flavor. then once we found the flavored rice cereals he did better but the Dr will probably tell you to mix it with formula or BM and try feeding it to her. You also have to find out how thick she will like it because that was a problem with my son too. Too runny and he would just push it all out his mouth too chunky and he would choke on it. Each baby prefers different things and it isnt gonna hurt her to try the cereals or the more gentle things like bananas and peaches. And even if you mix it with her cereal she will stay full for a longer period of time. But they usually suggest when it comes to baby food start with the yellows and oranges then go to the greens so squash and carrots and peaches and bananas are all good starters. Just make sure you only try them one at a time and not all in the same day and make sure you are only doing one for a day or 2 just to make sure she isnt having any allergic reactions to certain foods. Best of luck introducing the foods. Some of the faces she will make at trying new flavors and textures are priceless.

OMG I love the second picture! She is so cute!
I was surprised when the ped told me that too, but when I went too Madilyn's 4 month appointment I actually brought it up. She said I could try baby oatmeal but not to do it every day and really there was no need to do it but to just watch for Madilyn's cues. Like if she is constantly watching us eat, or looks interested in it. I have tried it twice since her four month appointment, so two times in about two and a half weeks. She took to it really well but I don't plan on doing it every day just because she is perfectly content with breastmilk and sleeps through the night. I think they just barely talk about it at the 4 month appointment.

Aww she's cute! My DD has the same kitty outfit with the tutu from Carters. We are delaying solids till 6 months because DD is tiny (4 months old weighs 10lbs6oz and 23in) because she will get more calories from breast milk than she will from purees. Also we want to make sure her belly is ready to handle solids.

Thanks!!!
I think she's getting curious, because everytime I eat in front of her she follows the food with her eyes into my mouth, and then licks her lips and sucks on her top lip. LOL it's funny. I just am hesitant of starting it. She does well with just 6 oz of breastmilk when I bottle feed her, or just nursing in general every 3 hours in the day, and sleeps anywhere from 6-9 hours at night, eats and goes back to sleep another 1-2 hours.

If she is following you and sucking on her top lip she could be ready. It wont hurt to try expecially if the Dr mentioned something about starting her on solids. My son was never a big fan of the cereals and I dont blame him the suck butt and taste like cardboard. Had some on my finger once and didnt have a burp rag handy ( ALWAYS have burp rag or wash cloth handy YOU WILL NEED IT!!!) and licked it off my finger. It wasnt the best and I didnt blame him for not liking them. And I figure the cerals are more of a "filler" food than have any actual nutrition to them. Thats why I would mix some ceral in with his food to make it a bit thicker and help him stay happy longer. Glad she is doing so well. But by the sounds of it she may be ready. Just dont force it on her and go with the flow. And I can COMPLETLEY understand being hesitant to start (expecially if she is your first) its the whole "my baby is growing up" factor and Ididnt want to witness it happening either but either way she is gonna grow up whether you want her too or not. I had to embrace that knowledge with my son and now he is a big old 4 yr old who goes to preschool. Enjoy the moments when it is only introducing foods that is scary because they grow up too damn fast!!!

What a cutie ^_^

and honestly...
My mom encouraged me to give Xander baby oatmeal at 2-3 weeks old...
from a spoon... (very watered down)
And i did....
Of course, the pedi didn't know that
Was just going off of what great grand mama and my mommy said

My kids not dead. lol.

I think being curious and mimicking is just the age, and doesn't necessarily mean they're ready. Both my kids started that around 3 months and my son still had hus tongue thrust reflex by six months and my daughter refused solids until 10 months.
