babysitting and special needs

so i need some advice my neighbor works 3rd shift 7 days a week and she has her grandson who is 15 months old down she asked if on her days to work if i would watch him well we have known them for all my life and both my boys know her and her grandson well tonight is our first night and my son sky had a very bug meltdown he cried for like 2 hours and i was wandering if there is anything i can do tomorrow to make it go betteror should i just tell her to find a differnt sitter?

idk if i missed anything but what is the special needs part? and what does it have to do with your son having a melt down, or how does his meltdown inhibit your babysitting? :/ I got lost lol

sorry i wasn't thinking to clearly i was just trying to see if i could get some advice. but my son has autism and he isn't use to me babyistting another child and he does not like change so its a big adjustment for him.

ahh ok. That makes perfect sense now. I have an autistic brother and we are almost certain my 3 year old niece is autistic as well as she is extremely hyper, sensitive and speech delayed and I babysat an autistic teenager for years.

I would not feel bad to say you cannot handle babysitting what with your son. If she knows you well enough then she should be able to at least imagine why there would be an issue. Was he just overstimulated? Our (my sisters and mine) infants severely over stimulate my brother. If he was, that could take a while to get him used to the baby being around and sometimes its just not worth the stress for the sake of doing someone a favor.

this was our first night and i am gonna tell her i can't do it anymore because he can't handle it. he has not really been around babies and although she has brought him over a few times during the day there is big difference in visting and staying the night.

Oh yeah, of course. I can only imagine. Just gotta do whats best for the LO's kwim? I am sure someone else will be happy to babysit for her. There are babysitters out there for all shifts. I would love to do 3rd shift babysitting myself since I am up half the night with LO bc of teething and SO works 3rd shift himself. Don't feel bad about it!

yeah i know my mom would love to babysit she loves little babise lol. her grandson is no trouble he is a very good baby its just not going to work with my little man he can't handle it. thank you for the advice
