You can always refuse.
Women give birth to big babies all the time lol I'm super tiny and my son was 9lbs, he came out fine
One of my cousins was 12 lbs! Delivered vaginally!

Thank you for all the responses! To clear a few things up... yes I know the exact the date I conceived (I was breastfeeding my baby girl and kept track of "sex days" JUST in case we had a whoopsie pregnancy...and we did   The second thing, I was induced with my last baby 10 days over with Pitocin, I had heard the horror stories of the drug so I requested an epidural right away... I had an awesome labor. I had 6 sweeps done prior to having to be induced! They were painful, I was stuck in bed for the day afterwards...it was awful So I really don't want sweeps this time.
I would never want to do anything to put baby at risk of course, I am listening to my body as well.

Quoting Fharyn:" wow, they were really off on your due date. I wasn't induced and he was an emergency csection, so there ... [snip!] ... keep him in longer :-( We did luck out though, he never had to go to the NICU. It was me that had to stay in the ICU instead."

Yup this is her in the NICU.
I didn't get to hold her for the first 24 hours of her life. When the hospital realized they couldn't care for her they sent in a helicopter team to take her to the childrens hospital in the city. When they found out I hadn't held her yet they brought her to me and let me snuggle her before they took her.
I ended up having a huge amount of blood loss and couldn't breathe after her birth and due to exhaustion and no food I ended up on oxygen and a nurse watching me to make sure I didn't pass out.
It was crazy.
I know that ultimately with me getting Pre-E that she would have had to come out anyways but I wish they had been more prepared for what was going to happen when she came out

awww.....thats heartbreaking. I couldnt imagine not being able to hold your baby for that long. When I woke up in the ICU I had no idea if my son had survived or not. The nurse that walked in(with no baby with her) mustve seen the panic flood over my face because she rushed to my side and said dont worry hes okay! and asked if I'd like to meet him.

all i can say is try evening primerose oil to help soften your cervix to dialated if your not dialated than you wont go into labor but on the same note you cant rush perfection of a baby

I feel your pain. I really do... in fact, Today, I walked into my doctor's office demanding to be induce -- which they refused until I'm 10 days late.

Perhaps we can wait it out together? I dont know what hospital protocol is.

UPDATE: I called my family doctor to get a second opinion...she told me if I'm not dilating it's the best choice to wait, if I start dilating in the next week she said should tell my OBGYN to induce a few days earliar than 10 days overdue, so at least there's a silverlining   I would never do ANYTHING to put baby or me at risk, but if I am definitely overdue by a week and dilating than inducing should be okay and I have done it before too.

I got induced at 42 weeks with my DD. I hated it. I labored for 30 plus hours and contractions were horrible! One of the nurses told me that the pitocen was making contractions harder. Ugh.. determined to patiently wait on LO this time. Good luck!

No, I really don't think a hospital will induce you just because you're uncomfortable. I think they'd probably just tell you to go home, or even get annoyed that you're trying coming to the hospital when you don't really have any reason.

My water broke and I went into labor at home, but eventually needed pitocin to help it along. I HATED it. It made my contractions SO bad and SO close I could barely get a breath in between them...it also made my stomach so sick I was hanging over a throw up bucket for half of his delivery. NO fun!

I know it sucks, but chances are you're almost there. I would just sit tight if I were you.
