Smaller dog breeds.

posted 10th Oct
So if my sister takes the chihuahua to her bfs house like she is saying she wants to, I was thinking about getting my DD a puppy since she loves dogs so much. Well I want to get another smaller breed dog but not another chihuahua, what other small breeds are good with babies and are good at being potty trained?

Theres small dog posts all over today   I highly recommend Pembroke Welsh Corgis. Theyre perfect. You get the benifits of a big dog in a small dogs body. Theyre also good for almost any living situation.

Maltese puppies are great! Plus they're hypoallergenic since they have hair not fur, they're adorable and cuddly. Maltipoos are also great, they're a cross between Maltese and Poodles so they have the curlier hair.

My mom is looking for a second dog (since our Golden is getting older and my little brother is in high school and she's a stay at home mom so she's going to have a very hard time with empty nest syndrome) and she wanted to make sure the dog is good with kids since she's got her first grandson coming any day now

I have a yorkie/poodle and she is AMAZING with the baby. He loves his puppy. She's only going to weigh about 4-5 pounds. She is so good about not pottying in the house. She's only had 1 accident in the 3 months we've had her. She is a little high maintenance with her hair, though haha. I have to keep her clipped and brushed, with a little bow in her hair. She's adorable

lol no about 13. But since we lived in the city dogs would come and go a lot. If they couldnt be breed any more or my mom had an oppurtunity for a dog with better bloodlines one dog had to go for another to come. We also had a foster one or two that we only had until they found a forever home. She wasnt a breeder that would crank out smurf pups. She was consently trying to improve her bloodlines and the quality of the pups we had.

Go to your local shelter and look! But if you'd rather buy, we have a Jack Russell/Rat Terrier and she's super smart! She knows all kinds of tricks, she was super easy to train, and she's only about 15 pounds, plus the breed she is has a lot of energy and is perfect for little kids. They're very good dogs. Our girl is 13 and still acts like a pup!

Malteses and Yorkies are way too small and fragile for young children. They are easily injured, and can have attitudes that make them a bad bad choice for small children. Like others previously mentioned, a Beagle or a Corgi would be ideal, because they are medium sized and sturdier than the toy breeds. Toy breeds are not for small children. Also, do research into the specific breed if you have to have a purebred (for allergies or something). If not, adopt from a shelter. Don't go to shake-a-paw, bob's puppies joe's dogs etc. They get dogs from puppy mills triple the prices and give you a sick dog that has never been taken care of and could in all likelihood be very sick and have genetic abnormalities. Above all, make sure you're ready for a baby and a puppy because it will be like having two babies at once.

We have dogs already. A lot of people would say the dogs we do have are not good with small children but I beg to differ. Every dog acts different. I have a chihuahua and a pitbull both are great with my DD. With that said my sister said she might take the chihuahua with her to her bf's house, and my DD loves the chihuahua and the pitbull is too big for her to play with so I would like another small dog like a chihuahua for her to play with.
