softened cervix
posted 10th Oct
I went to the hospital last night because I was having contractions. Which they were so far apart and random I figured Braxton Hicks was to blame. But I also felt like my cervix was doing stuff and could feel the baby very low. Like my pelvic area, was her head! Anyways the contractions were gone but I had them check my cervix and she said the baby is low and I'm 20% effaced but still closed. She said this might be just a second pregnancy thing. How normal is it to be 9wk from due date with a thinning cervix and go to term? I'm worried. I see my Dr on Friday but thought I'd see if you ladies had this happen.

Very common. I wasn't checked at 31wks but at almost 35wks I was 2cm and 80% effaced. I was induced at 38wks but probably would have made it to 40 had I not been

Many people dilate and efface way before labor. As long as you are not experiencing active labor signs...its no worries.
I am pregnant with my 7th now and still don't dilate or efface basically any at all until I am in full blown labor.
