When people say...

"You need to focus on your child."

"You don't need a man. Have some self-respect."

"It'll happen when it happens. Don't force it."

"You won't even get a job and you think you can find a guy?"

"How do you have time to even think about dating with a baby?"

Why are people so quick to judge? I haven't been date-happy for Adrienne's whole life. About two months ago I decided I was going to make a dating profile active again, and I've been asking people for dating advice as a single mom. This makes me obsessive and co-dependent? How in the hell?

I've been alone through most of this. I've done EVERYTHING I can for my daughter. I've made some of the hardest decisions I've ever made in my life for her, and I wouldn't change a thing. I'm proud of how far we have both come.

Psychologists agree that in a family, the married couple is the most important relationship. They're told to focus on building themselves up so that they have a solid foundation for the emotional health of the rest of the family (the kids) to follow.

If that's true, then how come wanting a boyfriend as a single mother makes me the Whore of Babylon? Why do people assume I'm leaving my kid every night to go to bars and hookup with guys? I'm not even talking to anyone in particular; I've just decided that I'm ready to find a good role model for her and someone that can be emotionally supportive for me.

Why don't I deserve that?

It's easier for people to look down on you and judge..annoying.

ignore them. Those who have their "person" are always quick to judge us and think we should focus on our kids.

those in a healthy relationship with the other prent of their child... are always talking about how healthy it is to have date nights, take care of themselves, keep themselves happy etc.

those of us doing it alone... are supposed to suffer alone, in silence, no fun, never go out, and certainly never date or fall in love.

I know. People seem to have this idea that because someone is doing it alone, that they have to punish themselves. It's ridiculous and I'm sick of it. I've done everything I can for her, to the point of making myself physically ill because I refused help with her. I've been told it's okay to take time to myself, that if I want an hour to myself here or there not to be afraid to ask for help.... but oh no, wanting a guy around? Where in the smurf did her priorities go!

Just because you have a baby doesn't mean you have to be lonely. Ill admit its harder to date when you have a young child (or 3 ). Go outg & have some fun, who cares what others say. Remember a happy mom = a happy child
