So lets start out by saying what a freakin mess that I went through but I am so glad my baby girl is here and healthy!
I went in on Monday the 10th because my blood pressure was pretty high. I was diagnosed with gestational hypertension however it had never been over 150/90. The readings I was getting were out of the norm so I went to L/D triage. They pretty much told me not to chase it and sent me home with a 24 hour urine collection. I was 36.6 weeks pregnant at that time. I did the 24 hour urine and went back Wednesday to turn it in. They come back with the results about an hour later and the nurses wouldn't say much but they had to call my doctor and go over the results with him and see what he wanted to do. I'm not an idiot and just figured something was wrong by how they were talking. Well a nurse
came in and told me that we were going to be having baby early. Said that I would not be going home and I was going to be induced. I developed pre-e and since I was 37.1 weeks pregnant they were keeping me.... I was in shock. I was NOT planning on having my baby 3 weeks early and scared smurfless. I was just not prepared.
So they started an IV and had me wait for a room to be cleared on the pre-partum floor. Bout 2 hours go by and they wheel me to the floor where I waited a long while before they came in and started the Cervidil. I was not dilated at all or effaced at the time they started the induction. They told me the plan was to give me Cervidil and after the 12 hours check me and see if it changed anything. And also said they can only give me 3 doses and if it does nothing then they will further discuss my options at that time.
Well after the first round they checked me and OMG that hurt so bad! The medicine did nothing. So they waited a few more hours and gave me another dose. This dose brought on slight contractions but nothing too bad to handle. Every time I went pee I would start having contractions afterwards. So the last round of Cervidil did not do well with me or baby. After about 10 hours, I went to the bathroom and when I came back to the bed, I was having contractions every minute that lasted about 30-40 seconds each. They hurt so bad! I was in so much pain I didn’t know what was going on. I had about 6 nurses in the room with me. Apparently the baby’s heart rate was dropping down in the 80’s with every contraction. They gave me some medicine to stop the contractions and then when they finally stopped they checked me again (which every time they checked me the nurse couldn’t even reach my cervix so they always had someone else come in and try) I still was not dilated but the baby’s head did drop. They sent in a doctor to discuss my options. Well the doctor said since the baby was not tolerating the contractions that it would be best if they went ahead with a c-section.
So around 7 that night they sent me off to the L/D floor. They did the epi which felt really weird and it took a lot of the medicine to get my left side to go numb but as soon as I was numb they wheeled me into the O/R and started the c-section.
At 8:16pm, September 14th my little girl, Lucy Diane was born weighing 6.05lbs and 19 inches long.

The whole induction process sucked and the stay after the c-section sucked even more. I was put on Magnesium to help with my blood pressure. I couldn't get out of bed for a whole 24 hours. The pain meds they gave me were so strong I was completely out of it. I weaned myself off of them by the time I was ready to go home because I just could not function. After 5 days in the hospital I finally got to go home, only to go back to the hospital a day later because my stomach was red and hot to the touch. I got an infection and luckily I caught it early and it went away with antibiotics.
This post is probably pretty random and run on but I’m done! Thanks for reading!
