I wouldn't. Why would I want my daughter's to see their dad behind bars   Obviously not literally, but it would probably upset them more than do them good, wondering why he can't come home with us you know? That is no place for a kid to be anyways. If he didn't care enough about his kids to do whatever he did to deserve to be in jail for a year or more, why should he get to see them? I asked my SO and he said the same, if he were in jail he wouldn't want me to bring the girls there. I hope to raise them to obey and respect the law so they shouldn't ever need to know what the inside of a jail looks like anyways.

I would for sure! I wouldn't deny my child the right to see her dad. She loves him

My dh is actually in jail..gets out on the 16th...a month of my life sucking.

But...after I had my dd#2 this past week I took her to see dh so they can meet. He was unable to hold her..but he got to see her.

I havent taken his son because he as autisum and doesnt understand his daddy is gone anymore and the firsg few days after he was arrested he got really depressed.

My 19mo old hasnt gone either because she is very depressed about him being gone and not understanding..i think seeing him through glass will make everything worse on her.

If my children were a bit older and understood that he did something he shouldnt have and has to be there for a bit then I would take them all...but until then id rather not confuse them or risk making their pain worse.

Of course, in Canada I can't see someone going to jail for a non-violent crime that long but I'll play along. Hell... violent crimes get less then a year. Ugh. I see no problem with it, my Dad had been in and out of jail while I was younger and it did not effect me one bit.

Probably not. That's kind of the point of going to jail, you're supposed to suffer the consequences of your actions.

I'd never want my innocent children to see their parent in jail.

no, i wouldn't. i remember in vivid detail visiting my mom in jail on multiple occasions. no way would i want dd to have those memories.

My ex-step-dad had visitation in the regular room...and there were kids there.

My mom talked me into visiting my ex-step dad to "tell him how I feel"  
and he was moved to a minimum security facility b/c of his good behavior. We visited right there in the open...

Oh god no lol.

I would absolutely bring my child. We actually were in that situation last year and I would bring our son to see his dad at least once a week and we spoke on the phone several times a day. It is important to maintain the bond between the child and parent.
