I'm so tired of people

Saying smurf on facebook about how people who use gov assitance should be drug tested.
I dont really agree.
I don't think it's fair to the children involved.
I think it would take way to much time and money.
If someone is addicted to drugs no it's not right, but they are still people who need to be fed...and have children who need to be fed.
Their response is "Oh well if they are on drugs their children will be taken away anyways..."
Umm no not alwaysy. Plus I don't always think that someone's child needs to just be immediatlely taken away because mommy smokes pot.
Me and SO don't do drugs and we got goverment assitance... It wouldnt really effect us. But it still bugs me when people say that.

Just a rant..

I think they should get THEIR assistance taken away, not their children's. This is if they get a positive drug test for a drug harder than marijuana.

The vast majority of people on assistance aren't drug users. And where does it stop.... "Oh you use state assistance, no beer for you!" I hate that others think they can micromanage others lives.

It's a waste of state funds when most people DONT use drugs. Use the money for the real criminals.

Well here in ohio I have met several people who sell their food stamps to buy drugs..which is totally wrong. It gives people who really need food stamps a bad name. I understand why they would want to drug test people, but I dont think its going to help. If peopke are going to do it..then they will find a way to do it.

I don't think it's noone business what another does and besides who are we to judge? Im not saying that doing drugs is right because its not fair to the children, but I dont think a child should be without just because of the parent either way someone is losing and most likely its going to be the child!

I live in CA and the Pot laws in TX are ridiculous! I do agree taht drug testing would be a good idea and parents using "drugs" need to be put in drug treatment and often have their kids taken or put in some type of treatment to help them get over the crap they had to see.

However weed is NOT a DRUG in my opinion or most people in my area.

A lot of Jobs here drug test and pot is not on that drug test. Meth, Heroin.... real drugs that ruin lives are on the drug tests

TX laws are so stupid... yet so meany people in TX think their crazy laws are so good that they want to be their own country!
I bet you know some of those people

Honestly people on gov. assistance SHOULD be drug tested. Why not? I have to take a drug test when I start a job, I actually have to do it every year considering I get laid off durig the winter and start back up in the spring.

So why do people that dont work for their money not to have one but the people that actually do work, have to? Doesnt seem fair now does it?

I think its a good idea! If people lose their benefits, they need to take repsonsibility for it. Don't blame the laws. They are grown ass adults . I am so sick of people blaming laws etc for their failures!!!!!!

I think its more of an issue in the states then it is here.

I dont agree with testing at all. Like really how do "we" know that the people who are using are using their assistance on drugs.?

When I was young and moved out and was still in school, and had assistance I smoked pot 24/7 not once did I ever have to pay for it. You know the right people and you know how to fast talk you aint paying for smurf. You sell it, you somke your profits and thats it. Ss assuming that "all" drug users are using their assistances to buy drugs is ridiculous to me.

I know plenty of people who do. I have known many people who di as well, and some of them were were street ice user, coke ect....and it didnt matter how much they needed their smurf, their kids were always happy clean and healthy with food and clothes and everything like heat and hydro and rent were always paid, and their drugs smokes and booze always came last.

So to chracterize every drug user in the same spectrum to me is foolish.

It will never pass here same as drug testing in jobs it wil never pass. lol

Haha They tried it here in FL for a short time. Very few people tested positive, maybe 2 or 3 percent so they scrapped it.

Exactly and it was costing so much money just to run the damn program.

People bitch about how their taxes go towards assistance. Doing the drug testing is just another excuse for them to bitch about paying for assistance.

I think what it is, is they are under the mistaken impression that by drug testing welfare recipients, that they are going to save lots of taxpayer money by cutting off benefits for those who tested positive. They probably assume that half of those on welfare use drugs, so they think taxpayers would be saving hundreds of thousands if not millions. But in reality, we wasted more money than it was worth.

And its not sketchy as smurf that rick scotts wifes company may have benefitted in any way from this... Lol

*sigh* Conservatives...

From July through October in Florida — the four months when testing took place before Judge Scriven’s order — 2.6 percent of the state’s cash assistance applicants failed the drug test, or 108 of 4,086, according to the figures from the state obtained by the group. The most common reason was marijuana use. An additional 40 people canceled the tests without taking them.
Because the Florida law requires that applicants who pass the test be reimbursed for the cost, an average of $30, the cost to the state was $118,140. This is more than would have been paid out in benefits to the people who failed the test, Mr. Newton said.
As a result, the testing cost the government an extra $45,780, he said

Yeah, that's just what this country needs right now. More wasteful spending. Great job!
