Best long-term birth control?

I would really prefer to get a longer-term birth control instead of the pill... but I've heard so many horror stories about all of them, or simply that they don't work. Wondering if anyone has had one that works well for them that they like?
After DD is born, I don't want to have any more kids for a few years, so I can get a house & my life in better order!!

I have paragard, which is an IUD.I had it put in last December, so its been almost a year now. I love it!! No complaints here.

My moms friend got the IUD. She is dying now. the fluid around her brain in leaking. Its from the IUD. She can no longer smile and she has trouble talking. they just found out the cause a week ago and she's been really sick for about a month now.

I have always been on the pill but when I was 4 weeks pp with my last baby(he is now 9 1/2 months) I had a stroke so I can't take anything with estrogen in it now. I was on the Depo for 3 months but between thinking I was pregnant for those 3 months and all the other horrible side effects I had, I didn't get any more shots. I have now been on the Paragard IUD for a month and so far its not bad.

My only complain from the paraguard was that it gave me an awful odor! The doctor toLd me that it does that to a small percentage off women, i was just unlucky. If it weren't for that, I'd get it again cause i hate hormone birth control.

I am on Depo. I personally don't have any problems with it. Just like any birth control, it is pretty much a trial and error situation. I can't do the pill because it makes me sick. I won't do an IUD. That is just not going to cut it for me. Depo is great for me. No period, no side effects, NOTHING. Some people have constant bleeding. No matter what, not a single birth control causes you to gain weight. It can increase your hunger level but, it is up to you to be responsible.

You might want to talk to your Dr about trying the least invasive types first. The ring, patch, depo, implanon, paragaurd and other forms of IUD.

Ugh I'm having the same problem. Have had Paragard for 2 years now and am getting it removed for that reason and that reason only.

How on earth did an IUD in her cervix cause fluid in her brain? I;m just curious the cause.correlation. I'm sorry for the pain and suffering though! That's terrible

Other than that it great! But the odor is sooooo bad and unbearable. People could smell me from across the room and SO wouldn't sleep with new cause he thought I'd contracted an std and been unfaithful. The odor went away the day it wad removed.

When I was on the Depo? Lets see...
Spent the whole 3 months thinking I was pregnant because I had pretty much every symptom in the book.
Major depression
VERY random bleeding(never had my period while on it and still dont)
no sex drive
pain during sex when I actually had it
horrible cramping and bleeding after sex
REALLY moody
Gained at least 10lbs in the first month

Its been a month since I got the Paragard, which I got when my second shot was due and everything is already so much better other than the weight gain of course.
