I'm going to Dr tomorrow morning. i'm 29 weeks and going on a trip for work several states away for 6 days. so I'm kinda hoping that he will check me to see if I'm starting to efface. When does the doc start checking?

You've got like 9-10 weeks til they start checking you.

Sometimes never. I doubt your doctor will check you at 29 weeks, it's too early.

Mine started at 36 weeks and then he stopped at 38 weeks when we realized I wasnt progressing. There really isnt that much need to check since you can be dilated/effaced for sometime, weeks even, before labor actually kicks in.

At 37 weeks they started checking me.
If you are having cramps or anything out of the ordinary they might check you sooner.

my dr check me at 35 weeks

Mine started at 38 weeks (or well 37 and 6 days) it's too soon for them to be checking for any of that, they're not even worried about the baby's head being down yet... but be patient... plus it's not really that fun of a process anyways..

Every situation is different but i have never heard them do it prior to 34wks.

There really is no reason to even check that early. Sometimes they don't even check you until 40 weeks.

So I'm beginning to wonder what the point of all these dr appointments in the 3rd trimester are for.. Last appointment, 3 weeks ago he listened to the heartbeat and we did the glucose test.. but we talked for 15-20 minutes about starting a business.. This time there will be no glucose test, so I'm not really sure what the point of all these dr appointments is. Is that all he's gonna do is check the heartbeat now every 2-3 weeks?
I know my son is perfectly fine and healthy.. He's moving and kicking constantly day and night. Seems like a lot of time off work for just hearing a heartbeat.
I guess it was different with my other kids.. bc i had twins first, and the 2nd preg was a VBAC so they were probably constantly checking since the first delivery was C-section.
