group b strep test

i go in friday to have my group b strep test done my midwife told me i could eather do it myself or they could do it . I dont know weather to have them do it or me. i really want to know when they will check to see if im dialating if its this week i might as well have them do the swab for me ...when will they check for dialation

Every doctor/midwife is different. My OB started checking me at 37 weeks. Just keep in mind that dilation is not a sign of impending labor. You could be 3 cm and still have a month to go, and vice versa.

I sat at 3cm with both pregnancies for 3+ weeks.

I would have them do it and you can always ask for them to check to see if your dialating never known a dr/midwife to turn down making amom feel more informed/at ease

My midwife does not check for dilation unless you're overdue. But she started checking me at 36 weeks because I was having regular contractions (had them till 41 weeks and was induced)

I did the swab myself.

You may not even get BH. Or you may not feel them. Some women just dont

I go on thursday for my test, and they said i could be checked for dialation at that time aswell. id just ask. i dont see why they wouldnt. I'm 35 weeks +5 days

& im right there with you, i havent had any bh or anything, ( that i know of ) although at the moment i have cramps lol idk what bh feel like

BH can be cramp like and tightening of the belly.

Also a lot of doctors won't check for dilation because it really doesn't tell you anything and they don't feel right poking around in there for no reason.

They had me do it myself. And I tested positive   it's easy you just barely put the tip of the swab in, do a circle with it and then go back like you're wiping so you catch the a piece area.

Dont think ive experienced it then. jist cramping. and even if docs dont where you live, they do here. and if you ask im sure they wont say no. i know i wanna see if im dilating, regardless of it means anything or not, its just nice to know your body is preparing itself.

What I was trying to say is that some doctors say no. Mine did. Until they realized I was having regular contractions. She says no to all her patients unless they are having regular contractions or overdue.
