re: How old is too old to breastfeed?

posted 10th Oct
A friend of SO's parents was 'breastfeeding' her 9 year old in front of his friends when they came over. To me that's going to far

For me over 18-24 months would be pushing it but I would pump milk to put in a cup after that. I think once they are about kindergarten age it is a little weird in general, but not disgusting or child abuse like I have seen some women say about extended BFing. (The comments on that Time magazine article is where I saw many of them)

I breastfed my first until age 3 and am hoping to do the same with my youngest. I don't think there should be a cut off age of when it's no longer "okay" to give your child the very best!! I will full term breastfeed (until my child is ready to stop)

Quoting K. P. Walsh:" I feel like, if the kid can recall breastfeeding, he may be too old to be nursing.. If he can hold a cup, he doesn't need the boobie. IMO. "

There is nothng that you can put in that cup better for your child than breastmilk. Please also realize that not everyone can pump, I've been nursing for 3 years.. you know how much I get when I pump? maybe an ounce.

Pumping is like 5000x more difficult than just nursing the kid. Even if it were just for nutrition, why would you put yourself through so much trouble?

Honestly I would rather that then latch my 2+ year old. But I understand that convenience is just latching them on, that was way easier than pumping or formula. Unless my child had a serious health problem I would have fully weaned them by that point anyways.
