yep
Hugging your kid isn't necessary either. Touching is but you can get by with the bare minimum but why would you want too.

What if any kid is at school and wants a hug from their mom? I don't see how it's any different from any other type of comfort, really.

I still get crap looks when I nurse in public. I always have and I always will. I don't use a cover but you can't see anything more than maybe 1/2" of boob skin.

So, a child should be completely independent from their mother? I don't see how that is logical. If they're upset at school and they want to BF, so? If you're talking further than preschool, I highly doubt that would be the first thing to come to their mind when they get upset.

I see her point, but I also see yours.
How is the comfort they get from the breast any different than the comfort they would get from a pacifier?
I think everyone here has made really good point here.

Exactly. Shoot, I'm constantly loving and snuggling on LB.

Breastfeeding is skin to skin, which in itself is nice. But breastfeeding also doesn't ruin your teeth like pacifiers do.

I don't think it's any different from a bottle or a pacifier. If my children used either, I would allow them to self wean. I think children are born with a need so cut for comfort and shouldn't be deprived of it.

I don't get it. I really don't.
I breastfed in the hospital lobby with my daughter and had a receiving blanket and was very discreet and STILL got a dirty look from a man.
Sorry my baby needs to eat, dude.
Annoying as hell.

That too. Or maybe their favorite toy or blanket that they otherwise carry with them everywhere.

You dont think maybe they are just trying to give their kids the best substance a human can have?

I used to get upset by it but now, I don't even care. If they want to give me dirty looks, by all means. It's not going to stop my from feeding my child.

Yes.

It's not something I will realistically ever have to deal with. I know that it can damage the teeth and such but to me, the child's emotional well being overides the potential damage.

I had a paci when I was 4, I specifically remember looking for it when my parents started hiding them from me.
