re: How old is too old to breastfeed?

Quoting K. P. Walsh:" Whats your point exactly? I said I feel like if a kid a hold and drink from a cup at THREE, then I see no reason to continue nursing from the BREAST. That's my opinion."

What you said was "If he can hold a cup, he doesn't need a boobie." You said nothing about age in the post I quoted.

Right? Breastfeeding isn't a negative thing. Who cares if they remember it?

You guys don't feel like it hinders their independence when they're older? Jw ... I couldn't even see my DS wanting to breastfeed at this age (2)

Yeah, it shouldn't matter if they remember it or not.

You are born with boobs for ONE reason, to breastfeed.

Quoting Δ ☮ ∂:" This isn't the opinion forum, it's for discussions and debates. So you think if a 7 month old can drink from a cup the mother should stop breastfeeding? "
I think if my daughter was 2 or 3 and could properly drink from a cup, that the breast would not be necessary, no.
I do want to clarify, that there's nothing wrong with breastfeeding as a toddler, though, I personally wouldn't with my own children.
To me, 3 is a bit old to being doing it. Not that it's too old, period.

In what ways? I don't see how breastfeeding has anything to do with independence.

No, I don't at all.

That's like saying cuddling your kid will make them spoiled.

No, it doesn't hinder independence. My son is pretty independent, and nursed until 2 1/2. He's almost 4 now.

So under 2 or 3 if the child can drink from a cup it's still fine to bf?

True.
It's mammary glad, not a sex organ like a lot people seem to think.
Which is why I'll never understand why some people are so uncomfortable with a woman breastfeeding in public.

No one said it was necessary. It's not necessary I still BF my 18 month old but I still do because he and I both want to.

How does it hinder their independence? They still rely on you for food either way.

Makes them feel more dependent on you and that comfort.. Like, what if they're upset at school & it makes them want to breastfeed.
