A co-worker had it a few years ago. From what I remember it is when your placenta has attached itself low in your uterus. So, it is closer to your cervix... It could be in the way of the path baby has to take to come out...

you could have it VERY close to the cervix and have it not cause problems.. when labor happens.. but if its covers the cervix/ part of it.. THAT could cause you to have a csection BC the baby path is completly blocked.. or its 2 close to the cervix and when labor gets really going .. it could cause excessive bleeding to occure so they just do a Csection just for your safety and babies. all depends on how LOW lying it is. but with most ladies that have that.. its a good idea to b watched closely.

okay. the doc was looking at it when the machine just went blank. and didn't try to go and get another one. so i have to wait until wed to find out if its covered completly or partial.

hopefully its down low.. and not covering the cervix at all.. but depending on the dr they could just opt for a csection only bc with low lying placentas.. theres allways a chance that the baby could push the placenta down before the baby comes out.. and THATS never a good thing.. bc then obviously the placenta would detach and all us ladies know thats NEVER good.. SO hopefully its low in the uturus and will stay outta the way for yah.

You're fine. My placenta is low-lying as well. I had to go to the ER for cramping and a lot of bleeding in my first trimester. I was almost 11 weeks I think. I haven't bled since though. I had another ultrasound at around 18 weeks and the doctor said my placenta is still lying low, but it's not Placenta Previa, so there's nothing to worry about. As long as the placenta doesn't cover the cervix, we're fine. I also have spotting every now and then, but that's mostly just because my blood type is O negative.

No worries.

I am having that problem. It's not completely covering the cervix, it's about half covered, but they're still saying c-section. Even if you have to have a section, just remember that whatever it takes to have a safe and healthy baby is ok. Best of luck.

yeah, thanks. i had never heard of it before so i was just curious. wondering if anyone actually had it. they said since i'm in the middle of my pregnancy it could still go back to where it belongs.

My placenta was low lying in my first pregnancy. It corrected itself. They told me the only risk really was having to have a c-section if it didn't correct itself. I ended up having a section anyway though so it really didn't matter...

At my 20 week sonogram, they said I had a low lying placenta. I was just checked 2 weeks ago and it is not near my cervix. It is still low, but not in the way. More often than not (I think I read the statistic was 95%), the placenta "migrates" as theuturus grows and does not cover the cervix. They probally will check you again around 32 weeks. If it is covering the cervix, you will probally be put on restricitions and have to think about a c-section. I was told in the very beginning not to worry about it and put it in the back of my mind because this usually corrects itself. Good luck and keep us posted!
