re: Is it worth it to get your membranes stripped??

i had mine done yesterday and my cervix is so far back my MW struggled with a fingertip and im 41 weeks 1 day and not to scare you but it hurt that much it felt like my insides where being ripped out,im supposed to go back in 2 days for another one but im going to refuse because it was that bad.

for my second baby it worked like a charm. I got it done and a few hours I went into labor and had my baby the next day

got mine stripped at 39 weeks and went into labor within 6 hours

See this is what i'm scared of because my cervix is the same way and i'm only a fingertip. My doc said that i HAVE to be dilated to a 1 for her to even attempt it. Half the stories on here make it seem like its totally worth it, then stories like these make me so scared lol so confused!!

I am so glad I'm not the only one.
it was absolutely horrible. my MW said it probably hurt so much because my cervix just was not ready

honestly it was really rough i mean loads of ladies said it hurts but my MW said it can be uncomfortable god i cud of bitch slapped her if she went any longer!! sorry not putting you off but at the time i didnt know how my cervix was because i have never been checked before

Wow! I think if im not dialated anymore then what i am now, i don't think imma do it. It seems like most the ladies on here were at least between a 1 & 3 and it worked 4 them. I'm not even a 1 yet so right now i doubt it if it will work for me.

well i have lost the tiniest amount of mucus plug tonight but i still have a way to go but if your not dialated like me its a bitch! just hope i progress in 2 days or am getting induced.it sucks.

Well I had it done 3 times before and it never worked for me. Its one of those things thats really hard to say if it worked or not....it could be coincidence more times than not that it works...as perhaps without the stripping the person would have gone into labor anyways...but there is no way to prove or disprove it. If it had a 100% success rate it would be different.

Your experience in pain will vary. It might depend how far dialated you are at the time (the less dialated the more of a struggle it will be to get in to achieve the strip. It will depend on the location of your cervix...the higher the hard to reach. It will also depend on the person doing the stripping...how gentle they attempt it and basically how long their fingers are so that they can have a better reach!

So my cervix is always high. It is slightly off to one side. I am never dialated but a tiny bit until I am far into labor. My dr was a tiny thing with bitty hands. It always hurt like the dickens. I mean I lived through it. I am not a whip I deliver non medicated everytime...I have had huge babies. But it will sort of take the breath right out of you. I always have to lay there a couple minutes to recompose after having it done before I sit up and get moving.

I always go over and try like crazy to avoid inductions that become necessary when my fluid levels start to decline. So I get to feel I will try anything safe to help things out. So in the end I am glad I gave it a shot. Thinking ahead now I would say I wouldn't do it again it didn't work....but when you are 41 weeks and getting threatened with an induction...well I am apt to change my mind and give it a shot!

I had it done when I was pregnant. My midwife said it would happen within 24 hours if it was going to happen at all. She also told me to go home and "have my way with my husband" to try to soften the cervix. It was pretty uncomfortably painful, but not to the point of tears or anything. Just a super weird feeling. I started bleeding after it and had some cramps like I would for a normal period. 9 hours later i stated having regular contractions and almost 24 hours to the minute after she stripped them, i had my daughter!

Best of luck to you!! I was induced at 37 wks with my 1st DS because of pre-e and i was in labor for 22 hrs. I was 2 hrs away from a c-section. I had no idea what its like to be 38 wks or to be overdue like you. Maybe your water will break at the last minute or something. lol

See its stories like this that makes me wanna spread the legs and let her at it lol i'm so miserable at this point with the contractions that don't do anything to me and constant back pain. How far dialated were you when you had it done?

hope so just hope its not a fast labour with being GBS so hopefully get some antibiotics into me before he arrives....
