Sleepwalking
posted 9th Oct
Liam was having a dream that DJ was leaving for work, and he was sleepwalking, he opened the front door and walked outside and stood by DJ's van crying and screaming "Daddy, I want to give you a hug and kiss before you leave!" but DJ was in bed! It was about 3:30 am and I ran out the door in nothing but a T shirt and undies! Liam sleep walks all the time but this is the first time he has ever gone outside. He knows how to work the locks, too.

That is so dangerous & scary.. You need to get a lock higher up than he can reach.

Omg that's scary. Maybe put a latch high up where he can't reach. Or they have those buzzers that go off when the door opens that you can use at night

My DD did that once looking for her absent father. She was like 8 when she did that.
My kids sleepwalk all the time too.

My daughter had night terrors in which she'd run to the front door and try to get out of the house screaming bloody murder. Very very scary. We had a put a lock up really high. And in our home before we moved, we also had an alarm that would sound if it was opened.

Just get a chain lock, put it high enough on the door that only you can reach it, (make sure your kid with a stool can't, if they can do it in the daytime, they can do it at night). My hubby was a horrible sleepwalker as a kid, and still sleepwalkproofs himself in, it seems they found him sleeping on lawns in the neighborhood he grew up in more than once.
He hasnt had an episode since he was 9, but he still does the proofing...he's scared to death that our daughter will pick up his habit, and we live between 2 busy roads.

I was a big sleepwalker as a kid and I went outside all the time. Even on nights when I didn't, I got up almost every night and unlocked all the doors. I have no idea what I was dreaming. I was a lot older than Liam though (like 8 or 9). My Ethan is sleepwalking some too, but so far he hasn't tried to go out. We got chain locks on the top of our doors though, just in case.

I'm late but something like this happened not too long ago to us and since putting a lock higher up wouldn't work (DS would just find a way to climb high enough) we put a double key deadbolt on.
