Well over here if your on welfare you dont usually get child support, it goes to the government and his childs payments dont become yours.

Yeah I am.

I don't drive and everything except dennys and the bars close at about 6 otherwise I would find a night job.

I'm at school all day or I would try to work then too.

I wasn't sure how that worked.
I know my CS goes to the government when he pays it.

I'm not living with my SO so until were actually married he isn't a part of my house hold.

He doesn't ever stay the night at my house either, idk if that matters to them but yea.

well, welfare is based on people living in the house.

if he's unemployed, and you work and go to school.. he could ask for custody as primary caregiver and win. He'd have to file for his own welfare for himself and the child

In California it is not. They will take it out of the spouses income.

They've just changed their practices so unemployment counts dollar for dollar. So if you two get married, you will not receive any aid. Period. It's BS... I know they are trying to prevent people from taking advantage of it, but people like me who are out of work because the jobs just aren't there are suffering....

Wait who could?

My SO's bbm has full custody and they live in another state.
Its partially why he's going into the Army, he wants to be stable enough to get his son back.

oops, I misunderstood the post.

no.. they will not take it from you. But... they will either take it from his unemployment... or assign him a wage that he is capable of making and order child support based on that.

he's still obligated to support his child even if he's not working.

if he's willing unemployed... they'll base it off what he is capable of earning.

Quoting Katie♥'sherHippo:" He's not getting unemployment. But if that's the case then he's gonna have to wait to get married lol. ... [snip!] ... on going off welfare as soon as he's done with training or however that goes but until then I can't be paying his CS so yeah.

They won't take it out of your aid, and if you get married, he will be on your case/on aid.. but once either of you got work and were no longer on aid, they would start collecting it...either way, he's still racking up the bill.
