re: Moby Wraps?

posted 9th Oct
I tried a similar one on and it felt great and baby was happy (fell asleep instantly) but I didn't buy it because she's going to grow out if it in a few months and I wanted something I could use longer if needed. I think the one I tried was a Boba wrap? They told me in the store that once she gets past about 20lbs it tends to sag with baby's weight so with her being 13lb at 2 months I figured I'm better with something else. I do wish I had bought it though she doesn't like the manduca I got as much. I found the wrap more comfortable too but I'm small so it had to have it wrapped around a few extra times. I did like the comfort of the wrap but I didn't like that DD would grow out of it soon, that it was so long and it was kinda warm being all wrapped up.

I have one, I used it for when he was newborn. I have a bad back (spine curves at the bottom from a horse riding injury) and the moby did not bother it at all, the ring sling did however. It cost me 40 something. Easy to take care of.

I also have a wrapsody, when the weather got warmer, more stretchy, thinner and longer.

Now I use a Boba, LOVE it. Once this baby come and is a little bigger I will move to my Boba. Its easy to use no wrapping and spot cleans easily.

I have a moby and love it! My lo is 7 weeks and 14lbs, no pain or discomfort on my back at all. Which is surprising because I havea bad back due to a very bad car accident I was in 10 years ago.LO loves the moby. He almost instantly falls asleep, he's able to easily nurse. I'm sure as he get older I'll start to use my Ergo more but for the newborn phase I love my moby.

I would recommend a Baby K'tan. it does all the same things as a moby, but you dont have to wrap and it is way less fabric. much easier to use.
personally, i don't love one shoulder slings (like the peanut shell), they put all of baby's weight on one shoulder and it ends up hurting your shoulder/neck very quickly. the moby or k'tan style put the weight on both shoulders. much more comfy.

Quoting NicoThunders:" Very well said. Another great option is a pod. It's similar to a mei tai, but only has straps coming ... [snip!] ... modern update as opposed to the traditional Japanese style). I <3 ours, it's comfy with my 16 month old and my 5 year old."

I made a pod with wrap straps, still very comfy with my 38 lb kid and for whatever reason i find it much better than mei tai's.

What tutorial did you use?
I'm going to convert my rasta ring sling into a pod, but I keep putting it off. Scary!!

Well I ended up buying a sling and taking it back because LO didn't like it.

So next paycheck I'm thinking about investing in either the Boba or the K'tan.

It's definitely scary chopping a good/loved wrap fabric   I did a trial run with some waste fabric i had at home (old curtain liners to be exact lol) and just guessed/trial and error'ed it. I first did a regular strap but it was too diggy, wrap straps were much more supportive and comfy for me. I have a Storch leo that i don't use. DS is big and heavy and only wants carried for 2 minutes at a time now, it's a size 3 and i'm not sure if i should make it into a ring sling or a half buckle with wrap straps. I don't even know how to comfily wrap with a size 3 and such a big kid? I'd love to get a custom Ocah with it but can't afford it, and i'm too scurred to chop it to make it myself as i've not used buckles before and it seems like a lot of work. DS will probably be finished being worn by the time i finish it lol

I couldn't make a half buckle, no no no, lol.
Props to all the mama's out there that do conversions, that's just a little to much chopping and too little room for error, lol.

I've heard Storch Leo is a good toddler wrap , do you not find it supportive enough?

Throw LO on your back and do a ruck!
Ruck is my go-to carry, even in my pod I usually tie it in a ruck, heh. But I need to sell my pod so I can buy a new shorty. THEN maybe I'll get up the guts to convert Rasta to a pod.

My grandmother ordered me the Moby from the website. It was about 45 dollars I think? We used it from newborn until about 15lbs. Unfortunatly for us that was only until about 4 months old lol. Once he got too heavy, it started saggin. But I absolutely LOVED it. My son was so content when he was in it. The downside is all the fabric, it's hard to put on sitting down, so if you go to the store or something, it's hard not to drag it on the ground while putting it on.

Now we use the Ergo even his daddy loves wearing him it that!

He wants down too quickly for it to be worth it, it's literally just one or two minutes he wants carried then he wants to walk/run again. He'll happily be carried on my front but refused to be wrapped on my back. I'm wondering if a ring sling would be comfy at his weight now, he the same height as some 5 year olds so he takes up a lot of space lol. I'm not sure what else to do, he's too heavy for me to carry and so it's a drag atm as i hate having to encourage him down when he'd really prefer a cuddle and little rest, but i have fibro and heart problems so i'm just not upto carrying him. It's still very comfy to wrap him on my front, my spine has metal screws and stuff so front carry is best for me - but his face is almost online with mine so i can't see past him lmao. On my back it means me abit too light headed and breathless, and on my hips it hurts my SPD. I'm a lost cause   At least we did full time bwing as long as he really needed it though, till he was about 2 yrs 10 months. Now it's just those super short carries i'm struggling with. I'm thinking about getting a stroller, but not even sure what for a big 3 year old..

What about a wagon? We got an awesome one at Harbor Freight. It was a lot cheaper than even walmart and kmart, lol (we got ours on sale for 49.99).

How easy are they to pull around?
My son would never sleep anywhere but on me or in my bed, he only naps maybe once a week now. But lately he's been tired on busier days out, and i'm thinking i could probably get away with him napping in a stroller and i could sit in a book store or get coffee or something, so that's my other main reason for thinking about a stroller :p

It's a lot easier to wear em that's for sure, lol.
But it is easier than our stroller (though in my strollers defense I've had it since I was pregnant with my 6 year old, lol).
