I feel like mobi is more secure for hiking type stuff and if your baby is clingy its skin to skin plus the weight is even over both shoulders but i haven't tried the peanut one. My baby is super clingy too i have to mobi her to get cleaning done

I love my moby. It was $35 at Babies R Us. It's complicated the first time or two you use it but then it's pretty easy. It hurts my back less than any other carriers and DD seems more comfortable in it.

Moby wraps are easy to use and the most supportive comfortable carriers for mom and baby in the early months. They spread the weight evenly over your whole torso and pelvis and are very comfortable when wrapped properly. There are lots of videos on youtube to learn to do it properly. Bag type slings (similar to the peanut) can be very dangerous, as they can put the infants chin to chest and effectively suffocate them. They also put all the weight on one shoulder and are painful to wear.

My son was high needs and needed to be held constantly, i feel the frustration/exhaustion! he's 3 now though and super indpendent.

Mobys are good for around 6 months.

Woven wraps are fantastic from 6 months to 3+ years. They are equally supportive but better for bigger babies and toddlers.

Mei Tai's (properly made ones) are good from 2-3 months onwards.
SSC - soft structured carriers, are good from 2-3 months aswel, the buckles in these last longer for older kiddos too imo. Brands like Ergo, Manduca, Beco etc generally fit until around 2 years old, although my son outgrew the ergo by 20 months. Then you can get specific toddler and preshcooler carriers, which is what i used beyond 20 months.

i'd definitely get the Moby or any stretchy style wrap for a newbie/young infant. You can leave them tied on all day and pop baby in and out as you/they need. You can also make your own very cheaply, it's just 5 yards of jersey knit fabric 20 inches deep. Super easy and very comfy and practical.

They should be seated in a W position, so supported from knee to knee, with knees slightly higher than their bottom. Newborns can have their legs up in the lotus position or lay in cradle position, although lots like to go straight into the seated position upright - particularly if they have reflux.

id probably sell it, bjorns and similar carriers typically do not support knee to knee and kill your back by the time your kid is barely 3 months old.

Ergo's are great if you want an SSC. My son lived in his one he was too wriggly for a stretchy wrap. Woven wraps are awesome for during winter too with little babies, they are so comfy and supportive and so many different ways to wrap them. Im european and can't remember the USA site, i think it's something like wearyourbaby.com and thebabywearer.com that have lots of diff carries.

Moby's only uncomfortable after baby hits like 15 pounds or so.
Stetchy wraps are GREAT for little tiny newbs but not supportive enough for bigger babies.

I would not recommend a peanut shell for a little baby, they're ok for hip carries after baby is a little bigger, but meh.

I would recommend either a good ring sling or a woven wrap (unless you only plan to wear baby for not-long term, then go with the moby. Just remember it's not going to be the best thing once baby starts getting bigger (and never use a moby or k'tan on your back. Not safe).

Once you get some practice wrapping is a piece of cake.

Just takes a bit to get used to.

Smart lady

You want baby's knees to be slightly higher than their butt.

Ya'll feel free to come into the official babywearing thread, though it does seem like there's only a few of us that post semi regularly....so we need more people!

Oh, also OP, I would recommend searching facebook to find a local babywearing group. A lot of times the ladies are willing to let newbs (like, at the meet-ups) try out carriers and what not so you can see what works best for you before buying one.
A lot also have "lending libraries".

This is the only Ohio group that I could find, there's not many members. I'm sure there's others though. I know Michigan has quite a few different groups (if all else fails join Detroit babywearers. We have a few Toledo moms in the group).
Ohio- https://www.facebook.com/groups/372913146098101/?fref=ts
detroit- https://www.facebook.com/groups/107815252632824/?fref=ts

And a great page to ask questions-

And one of my most favorite places...the swap!

Very well said.

Another great option is a pod. It's similar to a mei tai, but only has straps coming off the top. It's a Japanese style carrier ( I really like the modern update as opposed to the traditional Japanese style). I <3 ours, it's comfy with my 16 month old and my 5 year old.
