Your nine-year-old daughter, Emily, is dying. She has a life-threatening disease (Leukaemia or Lymphoma or something).

The hospital suggests you create a child that is a perfect genetic match to Emily, so that when the child is born, the cord blood (and possibly bone marrow and organs) can go to helping her. You pay them $80,000 out of pocket to go through the extensive work of creating the perfect test tube baby for Emily.

You go through the procedures and everything and become pregnant with Emily's prefect match.

Skip to about six months later.

You're twenty-seven weeks. Emily has suddenly taken a turn for the worst. She needs the baby's cord blood NOW. There are no active donors.

You can deliver the baby early and risk the baby's health to save Emily, or Emily could possibly die in less than a week.

What do you do?

A bit of that mixed in with this episode of Private Practice I saw...

Deliver. I know it sounds really terrible but I know my older child, they have lived and should contuine to live. My baby is just a fetus and could save a life.

There are more than a fetus, but not really in this case.

This is like a spin off my sisters keeper.

I don't know. I honestly would get pregnant in the first place and just live life to the fullest (of what's left) with my daughter.

I couldn't purposefully create a donor baby just to butcher them to save my sick child.

I think after watching the movie "My Sister's Keeper" I would continue with the pregnancy and hope for the best. I think it is sad to create a child for the sole purpose of saving another. What about the health of that new child that you are creating? So instead of having one sick child you would risk having 2 sick children.

If I actually did that, I'd wait as long as possible to give the baby a better chance...

That being said, I'd never do that. To me, it's wrong... But to each their own.

You know what? That's a good question. I have no idea if this actually happened.
The book is amazing, by the way.

But, yeah, I mixed up the book and the first episode of season two of Private Practice and made up this question...

True, but you would risk killing this new baby in the process of saving Emily?
