True...sex is awkward for a lot of teens and preteens and parents are too. lol

Then we will deal with it at that time. I've said before, if she wants birth control or an abortion, let her father deal with that. I won't have any part of it. I won't disown her, but I will also not compromise my moral beliefs.

Even if they talk to them about it at home as well?

It's lazy parenting for them to want their kids to get some information from a licenced professional as well as from their parents??

What, exactly, do you NOT know about sex...as opposed to a "licensed professional"?

Well technique in getting the message across. Some parents don't know how to talk to their kids even if they try.

Then the clear answer is to provide PARENTS with the sex education, so that they may teach their own children. That's a MUCH better option, IMO.

As nice as that would be a lot of parents would not go to that. I would...never hurts but then you have at risk youth who have parents who work allll the time and do not have time to go to classes of any kind. I am sure this has been heard before but "It takes a village to raise a child" meaning their entire environment teaches them so I personally see no reason teachers can't teach them even on subjects like this (with parental agreement). Not all children are lucky enough to have parents that can be involved like that. Many single parents work more than they see their children just to keep food on the table.

I don't prescribe to the "it takes a village" mindset.

...I'm not sure why the disagreement. I already said I'm fine with opting in/out.

Neither do I. It lends to shirking responsibility, I think.

I think it leads to a sociaist driven entitlement society. If you rely on the "village" to raise a child, you rely on the "village" to support a grown adult. Some would call it a cradle to grave society.

Honestly? A lot. I'm unaware of all the different methods of b/c. I didn't know about spermacides, female condoms, etc. until I hit 18 and was on BG.

I'm not sure how to approach certain subjects and how to get the message across properly. I don't know if I'll be adressing everything I should be. Luckily I have a few years to research it all before I have to actually sit down and talk to my kids about it.

I also think it's good to get information about everything from more than just one source. Doctors, teachers, parents, etc... the more educated my children are the more likely it is that they will be safe and more aware of the consequences.

Then, do some research yourself. Heck, I don't even put my full faith in doctors for my own health. I research everything and then make a decision.
