You think a preteen/teenager knowing about birth control/STDs/what pregnancy entails/different ways to say no to sex is immoral?

Like the other momma said, it's not just sex. It's probably very little about actual sex, honestly. You think most twelve year olds don't know that a penis goes in a vagina and that's how you get babies? Most kids have seen porn by then. If you think that your daughter won't know what sex is by then, you have very low expectations for her intellectual development.

tl;dr She's going to know about it anyway. Why wouldn't you want her to have the RIGHT information handed to her by PROFESSIONALS?

DD has been raised from a young age in the moral teachings of the Orthodox Hindu religion. Sex outside a long term relationship is taboo and so is hormonal birth control.

All I'm asking for is to be able to opt out. No grades on something that I don't want her to be taught.

She will learn about it from me. Her parent. The one responsible for her upbringing. Not by a school system.

She also will not be going on any unchaperoned dates until she is 16. It's a tenet of my religion. Unchaperoned females with males is a no no.

But who gives you the right to deny that information to people that want it? I would trust a curriculum that was decided based on up-to-date information, facts and figures straight from medical professionals, and for OTHER students (including the boys my DD is going to come in contact with eventually) to understand the severity of sexual relations.

There is always the chance that your daughter isn't going to choose your religion. Saying "WE DON'T BELIEVE IN IT IT'S WRONG!" doesn't make it impossible. It only means that if she does anything, she'll do it in secret because she'll be afraid of you.

I would just want the ability to opt out. No grades and no requirements.

Do you know the statistics of prevailing STDs? Each & every sign for each one? How about other problems not even related to sex? There is seriously so much information in a class like this. Like I previously said, I took a human sexuality course & I'd say that maybe 10% of it had to do w/ sex. There is a lot of stuff that probably even you don't know. So no, it isn't about 'lazy parenting.' & I'm not even commenting on the rest of what you said, lol.

I have taken several classes on human sexuality and the history of sexuality. It's kind of required to have a degree in Anthropology. Our family just happens to prescribe to a Hindu system that is equivalent to the Victorian teachings of social mores.

Yeaa, don't know what that means. I'm surprised you've taken multiple courses & still find it completely unecessary to have in the school system.

Like I said...let there be an opt out. If parents want their children taught about sex through the school system, fine by me. Just don't require my child to be taught that way.

What don't you know? Victorian and Hindu social morals?

"If other parents want to be lazy, let them. Let them have the pregnant teenage daughters because they were too lazy to teach their child about sex. Don't grade my daughter on something I don't want taught to her by the school system."

Yet you want other girls to get pregnant so your daughter doesn't have to hear something you're going to turn around and tell her anyway.

I plan on teaching my children, but I look at it as the more they know the better.

It's basically holding yourself to a virtuous lifestyle and not putting yourself out there to ruin your reputation. If she wants to be Hindu when she is older, a Hindu man will not marry a woman who has been with multiple partners. That was the same way with the Victorians. Basically prim and proper.

Okay, I was hoping you were going to refer to something else, but I guess not. So basically anti-feminism. It's fine for men to have had multiple sex partners, but it seems the moment a woman does, she's 'ruined' herself & is a whore.

So you don't think it's good that schools are covering the kids who's parents aren't going to talk to them?
