Awwwww, thank you! You've made me feel better about avoiding my accounting homework (that I'm studiously half-doing right now!) lol

I had sex ed in 6th grade and again in health class in 8th grade. Neither time do I feel that it was in depth enough. I don't remember them talking about self-esteem, STDs or anything really aside from condoms and what a period is. I have a friend who was a janitor at a middle school and caught the kids talking about how they were having sex all the time. Just because you IGNORE IT does not mean it's not there!!! And that is what drives me crazy about all these debates and lack of education leading to teen pregnancies.

Well its really mandatory to teach them these concepts as it is very necessary for them to understand sex properly. If we don't tell them in in school, they will came to know about it from anybody else in a wrong sense which will ultimately lead to pregnancy in teens or other sexual crimes.

No. Not into it.

It's lazy parenting to put sex ed off on the school. I'm not THAT parent.

I intend to teach my own child...but I know many parents won't and they need the truth somewhere.

Yes, but it happens DAILY. That's why there are so many teen pregnancies, now. There are other parents, despite what you're doing for your child, that refuse to give this information.

As long as I would be able to opt out for DD, whatever. I don't care that other parents want the school to raise their children for them, but don't tell my daughter anything about sex ed. That's a parent's responsibility.

I think it's an awesome program and should be taught nationwide.
As much as I don't like thinking about my kids having sex, I know it will happen and they need that information. I do the best I can to teach them about it, but there may be some things that I'm missing; getting it from two trustworthy sources is better than them getting the info from their friends.

I actually think it should be a lesson that is graded on and REQUIRED. I don't think they should be able to opt out of it.

Quoting Mel & a girl named Pey:" I don't either but I don't think telling them about lube should be in there. lol I do feel sex education ... [snip!] ... taught more in depth in middle school. I remember in 8th grade my friend was big and pregnant then in high school she had more."

Why not? There are lubes out there that have sperm killing agents. And also friction can cause cuts, thus a higher chance of picking up an STD.

Why should they be graded on something like sex ed? My daughter will be taught abstinence only sex ed by me and I don't want her thinking it is okay to have sex before a certain point.

Why is it a teacher's responsibility to teach MY child something that personal? The government can't get smurf right, so why should they be creating a curriculim for something this personal?
