re: Detailed Sex Ed in middle school

I absolutely agree with this 100%. I never had the talk because talking about sex to anyone but your partner is considered "obscene" in my family.

Considering the fact that 12-13 is the age when most girls get their periods, I think it's more than appropriate to explain to them EXACTLY what that entails.

There is so much about sex I didn't learn until AFTER high school because even the senior high schools don't believe in teaching this information!

I had a miscarriage two months after DD because I assumed that I couldn't get pregnant yet. It sounds dumb, but that is actually something a few girls I know believed until I told them.

Yeah my daughter knows she has a vagina but she calls it gina cuz it was how she could say it! My bff had 2 kids in her teens and she is very honest with her kids. she has 3 teenage girls and so far so good. One is 18 and just lost her virginity this year and the other are almost 17 and 15 and both have lost theirs too but she has taken them all to get on b/c and they are educated.

A sexual predator is less likely to use the actual names for things than pet names. So if your child has been taught a penis is a penis and a vagina is a vagina, and suddenly it's a weewee or a cupcake, you can start wondering where they learned it.

That said, my son's is a peepee and a penis. If he ever comes back calling it something else, I'll know someone is talking about something with him they have no business talking to him about. Not that he's ever really away from me or people I trust (his dad, my mom), but as he grows, that will change.

Now that you mention it I feel that miscarriage and what not should also be introduced as taboo as people make it, it happens and teens are not aware and suffer when it does happen to them.

I'd buy a son condoms and put a daughter on birth control. The only thing I ask is honesty, and that they be respect themselves, their partner, and me.

I know completely what you mean. I'm his mother, his parent, but I'm also his advocate and his greatest protector and champion in this world.

Misinformation is everywhere. Even in the adult world. Teenagers, even worse.

I was 14 when I was told I'd never be able to conceive. At 18 I found out that we thought had been "really bad periods" that put me in the hospital were apparently early or missed-implantation miscarriages because of all the scar tissue I have in my uterus. I put 2 angel babies because those are the documented ones, but I have no idea how many I really lost. I NEVER used a condom in high school because I was told I couldn't have babies and assumed I couldn't get pregnant....

I absolutely do NOT understand why these parents are trying to petition to get this class removed. They have the option to have their kid in certain parts of the class or to abstain from the class completely. Why try to take that education away from the children who's parents want them to take the class?

Because it's dirty and immoral and we must save the children from the dirty, dirty sex that adults have and children never will.

lol Yeah, right.

This makes me feel like teachign him the appropriate names is the best thing for him. I didn't even know that!

That is sad   I am sorry you had to go through that because you were misinformed! I don't know how you handled it as a teen!

Yeah as soon as my son shows an interest in girls I'm buying him condoms and talking to him same for my daughter but she'll get condoms and put on b/c.

It makes sense, though, doesn't it? I heard it some time ago.

LMFAO.

If you ask me sex should be one of the smaller things that we should be worrying about our kids doing. We can educate them on that! Teach them to be safe.

What about all these new drugs that keep on popping up everywhere? How are we supposed to protect them and keep them safe from something we don't even know exists?
