Burping

posted 8th Oct
DD is a week and 4 days old and it is so hard to burp her! It seems like I'm the only one who has a hard time with it. I try over the shoulder, leaning her over my lap, and sitting her straight up and patting her back. Even rubbing her back also.

What position worked best for you? And how long should I attempt to burp her before I stop? I know they wont burp every time they eat. I just don't want to stop trying too soon and her get an upset belly :/ Any tips helpful.

DS sometimes won't burp. I give him about 5-10 min burping, but if that doesn't work I throw a pacifier in his mouth, and let him hang out upright until he lets one loose.

Nope she's formula fed. I know that bottle fed babies need to be burped cause of the air bubbles they can get.

Meant to ask that too. DS is completely bottle fed, and his formula will sometimes get a ton of bubbles, so I know he has to burp

i find over the shoulder with newborns esp, is easier. just keep trying, do you try burping half way thru? she may just not be too gassy!

When I try and burp halfway through she cries cause she doesn't wanna stop feeding lol. I don't shake her bottles like up and down I more do it in a circle and side to side. So there's not many bubbles. I use the similac smart start bottles that have a little thing inside that helps mix it.

I have only got her to burp over my shoulder MAYBE twice. :/

Try giving her the pacifier inbetween. DS hates it when I take his bottle away half way, and screams until he winds up throwing up most of the formula I had just fed him. The pacifier keeps him calm and within a min or 2 of sitting up he burps on his own.

yeah babies are not happy about the stopping half way thing. i use to burp my son between sides, and i swear to god, he was almost 10 months old when i quit nursing, and he would scream bloody murder to switch sides...like "hello! r u new here? your gonna get more, calm it down!!" lol. i wouldnt worry about it, unless her tummy seems upset, or tender to touch, or like she is struggling. try and if nothing, keep going.

It's the same way for me also. I try for like 15 minutes and still nothing, by then she's mad and hungry so I end up feeding her again. She'll burp once maybe every two or three bottles.
