I don't really feel any particular way about it. Just someone stating their opinion about the government.

Its her opinion and she is entitled to it....and I partially agree.

They were probably as pissed as me that the DMV was closed today....well more pissed bc I didn't rant about it on FB. Oh well, his opinion.

I agree with the statement.

nah i hate columbus day for this reason. never paid much attention to it. before we were taught about the polotics and ruining of netives lives the only honor he got in our school was to be one of the first to travel across the ocean, honored as an explorer.
i think thats a good reason to honor someone.


they did fairly teach us the other side, and no one that i have ever known is proud of the trail of tears. we were taught this along with slavery, and how to not make these mistakes again.

But I'm going to make sure my son knows the bloody gory truth of the history of the holidays as he grows! I AM 1/2 native myself.

I think Columbus Day is an antiquated and racist "holiday".

You can't "discover" a land that has already been lived in for thousands of years....it is a celebration of European dominance over an indigenous population and that is horrible.

We made the mistake again when we glorified the bastard with a national holiday.

Its like adding insult to injury. Not only did we take your land, we are going to give the man who did it a standing ovation. YAY 'MERICA!!

I've always wondered why it was actually a Holiday. I've always found it to be a very sad story of true events.

Not to sound rude, but I don't believe too many people equate the true story of the Columbus with the day.

They get a day off, that's what matters.
