Trying to concieve

I'm new to this TTC stuff. Both my other pregnancies were surprises. We wanted to try for a boy, so we googled all the silly wives tales and positions and diets and other random things (like putting a cold pack on SOs balls before sex. lol, he wasn't keen on that one) all just for a bit of fun really. I know it's a 50/50 chance.
Anyway.... it's all this ovulation and cycle stuff that has me confused.
I was just mucking around on a due date calculator (obviously just for fun, I am aware it could take a while to fall pregnant) so I had sex last night, so I thought I'd see when the due date would be if I conceived last night. So I put all the details in to a due date calculator, and it tried telling me I would already be 4 weeks pregnant (if I had a 30 day cycle) or even 1 week pregnant (if I put in for a 45 day cycle) which is what confused me, how could I already be that pregnant with only having sex last night, lol They asked for the first day of my last period, which would have bee the 10th of September. But it lasted 17 days   so I'm not sure how long to put my cycle in for. lol.... am I making any sense at all? Coz I don't really understand it at all.
I'm not real bothered about tracking ovulation and cycles and everything yet. At the moment, we're just trying to conceive by having fun without protection (seemed to work well enough with the other 2 babies) I'm just curious about it all.

Women usually ovulate about 14 days (really 10 - 16 days) before their next period (she will have her period, unless she becomes pregnant). It doesn't matter how long you bleed for during your period. If you consistently have a 30 day cycle, then there is a good chance you will ovulate around day 16. Day 1 is the first day of your period. Once you ovulate, the egg only has about 24 hours to meet sperm before it runs out of time. The sperm can stay inside a woman's body for 3 - 7 days.

If you chose to track your ovulation, you may be able to increase your odds of having a boy by having sex close to the time of ovulation (boy sperm swim faster), or that's one theory  .

I believe this! I conceived twins fraternal boys and the only day we bd was on the day of ovulation

So two boy sperm made it there first  .

I believe it too, my daughter was conceived 3-5 days before ovulation (my husband was away before then and then I was sick closer to ovulation) and I'm pretty sure my son was conceived the day I ovulated, though it wasn't the only time we had sex that cycle, so I really don't know  .

I read that when your discharge is clear and stringy (like egg white) that it's a good time to try for a boy. I had that yesterday, so I'm hoping last night was a good night to try. I'm hoping it doesn't take too long to conceive. My youngest was conceived the very first time we decided to have sex without protection. So my body obviously knows what it's doing.
