minipill

I had my postpartum check-up today and I had my OB write me a prescription for the minipill. She said I could begin taking them as soon as I wanted, I let her know that I am ebf.

I read the leaflet that came with the pills and it says to begin taking them at 6 wks postpartum if ebf and around 3 wks postpartum if breastfeeding but supplementing with formula.

I'm confused now. I don't want to hurt my supply by starting the pills too soon! Should I listen to my OB or follow the directions in the leaflet?

ETA: I'll be three weeks pp this coming Friday.

I had the Mirena at 6 weeks postpartum and had to have it removed when it turned sideways in my uterus.... then I was put on the mini pill at around 3-4 months postpartum and it never hurt my supply that I saw. I was pumping. If I started to drop then I would pump more. Mothers milk tea also would give me an extra ounce or two per pumping. GL

Ya my Dr said it's not 100% and you can not be late taking it. You have to take it at the same time everyday. Also his nurse rec condoms with it if you want even more protection.

I had them on the 27th   I feel awesome now, I actually lost weight while pregnant and my belly was big and hurt so bad so I'm not quite missing it yet. I miss the babies though

Aww big hugs momma! I lost so much weight after the twins were born to.

I'm scared af of getting pregnant on these pills, but it's the only contraceptive I feel comfortable enough with while ebf. Were you taking it at the EXACT same time everyday?

I pretty much just spent 18 consecutive months pregnant. My body is weary and needs a break. I'm not to keen on the things I've heard about IUDs or Implanon. The Implanon used to be my first pick when I was pregnant but stories about all the irregular and breakthrough bleeding changed my mind about it as well.

Yeah my ob scares me cause she was like with the minipill you literally do not have seconds to spare with it!  

Then she was like okay you may have seconds but the half life of the minipill is very short.
Condoms don't work for us. Hubby always ends up taking it off...okay I'm not going to put it all on him. I beg him to take it off sometimes.

Lol I understand. I'm not that fertile on my own though so I've never gotten pregnant on it. If you are really fertile I would be careful lol

I have no idea, mama. I am just now looking into birth control options, since I had planned to have my tubes tied after this dude. Can you call the nurse in the morning and see what they say? Maybe they can explain it a little better for you.

That's what I told Chris I was going to do, call the office tomorrow and see what they say.

I was hoping to see what some ppl who did the minipill whilst ebf thought in the meantime.

No, I was taking it aprx the same time..like every night before I went to bed. I know NOW that you're supposed to take it at the same time but was never actually told that by a doc lol

I have no experience with the pill since I've never been on BC before. Unless you count natural family planning. But just a thought about your supply. If you worry about it being affected, you could make some Lactation Cookies. It'll be a nice snack during the day and will also be helping you at the same time. Who doesn't like cookies that are good for you?!
